Any one on here have any experience or knoledge, pro, cons on edelbrock BBC rpm marine heads. They are priced pretty good at $860 ea without springs and retainers. I am building an 11/1 roller 496 and would like to run an aluminum head this time around. Oh yea I also found a pair locally fairly cheap.

I am a big fan of aluminum heads on my freshwater boats. I get away with a little more static compression ratio and/or boost because the aluminum heads stretch a little more under load than cast iron. I also like the weight savings and the ability to repair damage that would render cast iron scrap. Due to heat loss, aluminum heads don't make quite as much power as cast iron - all other things being eaqual. The biggest drawback, at least here on the East Coast, is the corrosion factor. Aluminum and salt water don't mix for very long.

I have always used Brodex heads, but I have never heard anyone complain about the Edlebrock units. If you are buying a used set, pay attention to the cumbustion chamber size. Make sure it is right for the pistons you are using.

They are the hard anodized head. The chambers are only 110 wich I like so I don't have to have as big a dome for the piston. I know Brodix heads are as good as they come, I'm just tryong to save some money. Thanks for the info

one of our local jet boaters is running them on a 496
No complaints so far
Good. I figured they are American made and reasonable. My 049 headed 454 will only push my 85 Daytona to 77 on a good windy day so I trying to make a few more HP this winter. One of these years I'll post pics. thanks

I've used dozens of pairs of them on blown combos. I will generally spring for CNC ported heads for N/A combos.

Made 1,000 HP no problem with them on 522 cid pump gas blown. They don't have springs but you end up putting different springs on anyway.

Thats impresive. The marine head comes with the inconel exhaust valves. I like the no spring head also so you can get the spring that matches the cam. Thanks to all for the info.

I was going to suggest you talk to Infomaniac but he chimed in. My friend has a set on a n/a 454 with a tunnel ram with little carbs. They work real good and the engine has not had an issue yet. They are the the basic marine heads without cnc. This is a Hydraulic roller motor that spins about 5700rpm.:)

The castings are for the most part the same, they just change the core when casting them. This leaves a lot of meat, so they can really be opened up a bunch. If you buy them for now, to get going, You can have them opened up at a later time. There are off the shelf heads today that flow so much better right out of the box.
