Hey, I'm looking at putting a couple pressure taps on my pump; but don't really want to run capillary tubes...so here's the question:

The only electric water pressure gauge I've been able to find is a $230+ unit from Autometer - does anyone know of a lower cost solution with electric sender?

My gauges are just mechanical oil pres......I assume the electric version would work.....I dunno I couldnt even get the cheap plastic ran without breaking it. I went braided...and then just push lock from the transom fwd. I personally think braided would look better than a couple of wires....different strokes for different folks.

Hmm...I didn't realize an oil pressure gauge would work in place of a water pressure gauge.

I am not sure it will with an electric.....but my mechanical works fine. One of my tap gauges is a oil.....one is a water or at least that what they says on em. They are over by the passenger seat.....I like to ask 1st time riders how my oil pres is as I am idling out of the harbor.:)grn The water pressure gauge only goes to 35.....one of my taps has 40-50+ at times.......workin on evening them out.

I would think a gauge will not tell you what you need to know.

A data recorder along with RPM
Would be way better. IMO

I'm more looking for balance. Data logging would no doubt be better; but this is truly a lake boat and is too big/slow to race with current power - I'd rather spend that kind of money on other areas of the boat.

You can use an electric o/press sender, but the orifice is very small, and water will eventual corrode/block the orifice making it inaccurate. To get around that, you can use an isolator which will keep water from directly contacting the sender. Normally, isolators are used for fuel pressure gauges so a pressurized gas line isn't run in a passenger compartment. Expensive solution, but it'll work.
