I'm refreshing the 508 to a 515 BBC and when its all put back together I want to give the bock some fresh paint. Anyone know if there is a heat resistant engine paint that matches the color of Blue Anodizing. I'm sure I would have to do a 1st coat of silver or white. Both are available in heat resistant paint. I can't find the translucent blue or the color Indigo in heat resistant paint.

Can anyone help a brutha out?:D

I just used some Dupli-color "METALCAST Anodized Surface Color System" paint I got from Autozone. Our motors don't get hot enough to need heat resistant paint. Except for maybe right around the exhaust ports but no one can see that through the headers. Since the heads on my motor are aluminum, I didn't paint them.......

I have some left if you want to use it.

Back from church early aren't you??? You should be at the lake:D

Is it the same color as your Lightnings? I'm not tall enough to see inside your boat when it was in the water.lol

DO you have a part number? I can pick up a can when I do my gotta does.

FWIW A couple a days ago I asked the same question down in paint, and apparently base coat/ clear coat works. I assume that would be easier to match your color with? I dunno.

After a day of drying Ill give it the carb cleaner test. I used carb cleaner to clean the over spray off my fingers. Not to promising if carb cleaner removes it that easy. But it hadn’t cured either..

H20MOFO, I saw your post and asked Todd for some advice on where I may be able to get something like this for my engine. House of color's "True Blue" pearl matches best. He sent me this link where I may be able to buy as little as 4oz for a test.

I got 2 weeks to get my paint settled.

Wow! That looks damn close. I've used that stuff before, seems to work good. I had a truck that was kind of a burnt orange color, And I was mixing the red and yellow together on some motor parts.lol Turned out pretty good. You'll have to update us on the carb cleaner deal.

It looks real good. It needs 7 days to fully cure so I'll report in on the findings. I sure hope it works cause its dam close to what I want to do.

Cave,

That's the paint I used in your picture. Yeah, it matches the headers and the candy blue fittings pretty good. I don't think it's very yough though. I wouldn't be suprized that the carb cleaner melts it. Seemed to be pretty easy to scratch after it dried to the touch but the only parts that I painted with it was the block and the bracket that the fuel pump is mounted with. Could have toughened up after a week of cure time. Let me know how that works for you.

I went to the lakes today allright. All 4 of the ones on the Salt river, Canyon, Apache, Roosevelt and finaly, Saguaro. However, the boat wasn't invited. I am mad at it. It damaged the starter gear and I couldn't find a replacement for it so as punishment, I grounded it, so to speak. When I get the replacement starter gear for it, I'll really let her have it.

They make small spray bottles that are great for small projects. Only problem is you need to buy more paint than you generally need. Might be worth it though...

Carb Cleaner is some intense stuff. It took a couple of squirts but the color started to peal off.

Looks like I'll have to head to Space Age.

Cave don't drive yourself nuts looking for high heat/heat resistant paint.

I did my last engine with base/clear 4 coats of each,
the new owner had it stroked this year and the paint still looked
new after he got it back from the machine shop after going
several cycles thru the engine wash.
