This is a great run! I plan on leaving from the Discovery Bay Lighthouse at 7:30AM Saturday. First stop, Pittsburg Marina for fuel. Second stop Sam's Tiburon for breakfast around 9:15. Usually no fog this time of year. I may have open seats in my boat. No, not the Riiver Rocket!

I'm leaving Saturday morning, but not until around 9:00 or so. I fill up at the marina and will be in SF an hour after leaving the gas dock. We'll probably see you out there. I was just out there Saturday (had lunch at Sam's) with the 28, but will be taking the 30 next Saturday. What boat are you taking out there?

We will be stopping for lunch at Nantucket in Crocket on the way out - there won't be any parking at Sam's Saturday (docks guaranteed to be full of cruisers and sailboats). I just saw the schedule for the show, and we won't be leaving until later anyways. I can't idle all day with my Sterlings, and it's too rough to try and anchor or side-tie out there. I plan to get out there about 2:00 and stay until after the Blue Angels are finished (4:00 or so) then boogie home. Your Powerquest is a nice rig to go out and spectate from that day - my Skater not-so-much! I do get out there and back a little quicker though!

dale how long do you think it will take me to get out there from disco?
Hey Chris, from the time you leave the dock at either Orwood or Discovery Bay Marina, it will take you about two hours cruising at 50mph. I left my dock in the 28 Saturday morning at 10:30 and I was at the Pier 39 docks at 11:40 cruising 90 the entire way. I get there in 1 hour in the 30 cruising at 110. Make sure you hold enough fuel to go out there and back. If not, Pittsburg Marina has 91 octane and they're open from 8:00 - 4:30. Benicia Marina only has 89 Octane.

We changed plans Friday to go out on Sunday instead of Saturday and that screwed us! Woke up Sunday morning to 10-25mph winds, checked the current weather and forecast at Pittsburg/San Pablo Bay and it was the same. For anyone that has run through Middlegrounds on even a mildly windy day, you'll know how rough it is. From many past experiences, I knew it would be too rough to make it through with those kind of winds so I decided not to even try it. Covered the boat back up and called it a day! I will be heading out to the bay this Sunday though - weather permitting as always!

We went Saturday morn. Left lighthouse in DB at 7:50. Fueled at Van's place and arrived at SAMs at 9:45. There was only 3 boats there when we pulled up. Dale is right about San Pablo Bay, it gave us some nice chop. The bay was calm. I'll send pics when I get back into town this weekend. Thanks for recommending Nantucket Dale. Seen it for years but never stopped. Nice lil place.

Oh ya, I love all you smartasses that talk about how smooth the bay is and my Skaters should just run it over like it's nothing! ;) Seeing as I'm the only one out there 4 or 5 times a year, I can tell you from experience that there's nothing smooth about the bay, the water outside the gate, or the water that get's you there. Here's a couple pics of what the bay, outside the gate and getting to and from normally looks like.........
