I'm no expert, but I pull 48 gears in my 21' Howard with a blown 548ci BBC which I estimate to have about 900 hp. It goes 6000/6100 with a 11 3/4 X 16 3 blade Radiece prop and 6300/6400 with a 11 3/4 X 16 2 blade Menkins.

"43's with what prop?" Many ways to set up an older V-drive, V-bottom hull. Pitch VS gear and control are the questions unanswered here. Assuming the boat ran well, or ran at all, I would estimate 1200 + (1000 + lbs of torque) to pull 43's with a 16 pitch prop. If it ran a 15 pitch, they were trying to correct some control issues. Percent of slip is also a factor here, and trying to guess what you need now, is very difficult. The 20' I built and sold 4 years ago (pad bottom) had 29's and a Menkens (Az) 11 1/4 X 16 three blade SS prop. It pulled 6700 @ 114, (87 %) with 1013 dyno tested HP. I prefer lower gears and more prop pitch, unless the hull has control problems. Faster blade speeds with less pitch may overcome some "torque reaction" the hull may be having.

I got a set of 22's if you want to put a Medium hp motor in it, that i would trade you for the 43's. If it is a 10 degree V drive

its a 10 the motor i have in mind is only about 425 hsp would 22 be to big ,i thought i would have to go 15/18...who am i kidden it will be sold soon anyway but i will let who ever buys it know about the swap....thanks kid:)hand
