It's a couple weeks old, but for those of you who don't get up to the Dyno section, I thought I'd post this. Even though it's going in a car, this would make one helluva low maintenance jet boat engine, especially with a TR and a pair of 750's for the bling. :thumb:

Tested a couple weeks ago at Vrbancic Brothers dyno in Ontario.
Gen6 509
4.5 bore x 4.0 str.
Scat std. weight crank
Engine Pro 6.535 rods
Mahle 13cc dome piston, 1.27 ch
11.4:1 cr
AFR 305's fully ported (309cc), 2.25 valve, 103cc chamber
Straub hyd roller 244/248 @ .05 .649/.629, 107
Morel hyd. roller lifter.
Ede. Vic Jr, fully ported , Pro Systems 1000 4150.

Corrected (.04)
764hp @ 6200
732 lbs/ft @ 4900

This was on VP 109 oxy, but we made a pull down at 32* and it still made 746hp and 720lbs/ft. I think on 91 this would still make well over 700/700. Also, for a jet boat I'd gladly give up a little of that lower rpm torque for some more power upstairs with a cam adjustment. I think with a TR and a little different cam (still HR) this could easily make 800 on 91.

Where is the spam? I don't see anywhere stating anything was for sale. I do see a nice post discussing the output of a 509 engine. Who built the engine is irrelevant as far as the discusion of the engine is concerned. I for one am interested in how the build was done and what went into it and how much more can be eeked out of it. The fact that the poster has a business doesn't make this spam. What is a fact that all the whining from the peanut gallery is quite annoying and detracts from the thread.

Back to the engine.

What type of cam change would you make to try and get the most out of 91 Octane? And what kind of numbers would this make running E85 and stack injection?

Thanks snoc. You're right...I don't post in the jet section much any more since I haven't had a jet for years, but I thought this just might be fun to post here.
I don't think I'd change the cam for pump gas. Maybe drop the compression a tad, but in a boat, not even sure I'd do that. With E85 and a stack, would you be changing the rpm range? If so, that changes a few things. This engine was a failry well thought out combination so if we start changing too much, it becomes a "different" enigne, if you follow what I'm saying. I'd love to put a solid roller in this thing and buzz it 7500 just like it is. That wasn't what the customer wanted.
With a solid roller, E85 and a stack, bump the peak power up in the 7000 range, I'd guess you could make 850+. Might want to put a 2.300 intake in the heads, but they flow 385 @ .800 as is is. Like I said, the combination starts to change considerably but it's a really good base package. It would sure be fun to try.
ETA...what I meant about the jet boat and changing the cam, I'd like to see peak torque a little higher in a jet. It just doesn't need 700lbs/ft and I think a little more intake duration would be good and it would help peak power up top a little.

Spam or not thats some pretty impressive numbers. hitting the 800 mark with that little C.U. on 91 is awesome. would make a great Comp Jet engine. then take it to the river and have some fun. I must say after reading for 2 years on yb im a fan of what your doin.

So what would a combo like this cost pan to carb? If you dont mind me asking.

I made 740 hp with a bone stock 502/502 bottom end 9.2 to 1 compression with a set of stock AFR 305. Two points less compression, and a solid roller. Pump gas all day. I put it together in my garage. Ordered a 502/502 short block, ordered 305 AFR heads, talked to Cstraub for a cam and lifters and got a good oil pan. 740hp/680 ft lbs. Peak hp at 6200 rpm. With two points more compression over 800 no problem.

I'm pretty sure that Finnegan did a similar motor with similar compression and made about 740 too. Acutally he wrote an article about it. just saying.....

LOL...nice stir Shell...but you're a LONG way from 730lbs/ft and a little short of 760hp too. Try it with a 24x* hyd. roller next time. If you think just adding 2 more points would put you at 800 "no problem"...that would be impressive. I'd like to see it.
Oh, and I put this together in my garage and it has a crap oil pan. ;) :stir:
