I have a chance to take a promotional transfer with my job, but I can gaurrantee you I won't be living in Blythe! Which brings me to my question, Parker or Havasu? I know they are totally different worlds, on the one hand I'm all for the small town feel of Parker, on the other hand, I like to be able to go to dinner, the movies, home depot, that kind of shit. Anyone got any advice or suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Are you going to be traveling back and forth to Blythe on a regular basis (assuming your working in Blythe since you mentioned it)? Havasu is another 45 minutes if so. Just a thought. If it was me, I would say Parker, not a fan of Havasu.. I wouldn't mind living in the Big River area even though it's Indian land.

I lived in Parker for about 9 months and it was ok. Deff. has the small town feel. I was working in Parker so it was a no-brainer for me to live there pluse i had a great deal on a place. However, if i would have stayed there longer, like a couple of years or perm. then i would have moved to Havasu just for the easieness of everything. But Parker does having you need really, they do have a hardware store, they do have a movie theater there(bluewater casino, 4 screens)and the Walmart should be done in another month or so. So if i was gonna be working in Blythe i would probably live in Parker to save driving time and gas....but thats just me.

I have lived in Parker for 20 yrs. I like the small town atmosphere so Havasu is not a big draw for me. If you are going to be working in Blythe, I would spend some time and check it out. Blythe has lots to offer, but you wouldn't know it from the view from I-10. Very nice housing tracts, college, river, good fishing and water skiing etc. When I purchased my house in the Keys, I wanted to buy along the river in Blythe, but it was just too expensive. It is still more costly than Arizona, but if you are going to purchase property at least Calif. still has Prop. 13 and your taxes will stay stable.

I guess it all depends on what you want. If you boat on the Lake then I would say Havi but if you rather boat on the river below Havi than Parker.
Havi does have more resturants and shopping. It just comes down to personal perference. To each their own. We actually love it here in Havi. It has everything that we want.

If you have to commute for work everyday = Parker.
If you only have to commute on day 1 then home on day 5 = Havasu.

I drive 40 minutes each way to the office and it gets old fast, but I enjoy where I live in Carlsbad so it is worth it.

WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT
HE ASKED PARKER OR HAVASU
I ANSWERED HAVASU

THATS A SMART ASS COMMENT...

I don't dislike havasu, I dont like the way alot of the government is run and some of the business.

So for the reading impaired..
I WOULD CHOOSE HAVASU

Yes I work for the CA Dept of Corrections, the opening is @ Ironwood State Prison in Blythe CA. I'd really like to get the hell out of CA (this state is making me nucking futs) at this point I am looking at all my options, and Blythe is in the lead. I don't mind commutes, I have worked commercial construction all my life so 1+ hour commutes aren't a new concept to me.

What is the personal income tax rate in AZ?
Thanks for all the replies, this is kind of a big deal to me so I'm looking for all the info I can get.

Property taxes are lower in Parker.

Income Tax rate is WAY better than Ca. Just as an example, I ended up paying about $120 bucks to the feds, but got $650 back from the State. Same deductions and zero exemptions.

I'd rather drive 40 miles to Havasu a couple times a month for Lowes/Home Depot and shopping, than have to drive that same 40 miles every day, or at least 4 days a week.

Property values are fairly stable. We weren't hit as bad as Havasu as far as home value drops.

We had a place on the river in Parker for 14 years and now in Havasu for the past 7 years.

Parker too small town.

Havasu feels much more like a town and has a lot more to offer.

Nice gyms, Home Depot, Lowes, Etc.

I would pic Havasu.

I think I'm leaning towards Parker, Boatcop is right, I'd much rather drive to Havasu when I wanted to, rather than have to do it every damn day of the week (well ok only 4 days but you get the idea) Now, does anybody have any contacts in the rental world? I won't be buying a home for a bit so renting will fit my needs for now. The closer to the water the better, need a garage and a yard for the dogs. Thanks again for the replies.
