So my Dad and I are rebuilding a mess of different jet boats, the 1st one we have made real progress with is our Sleekcraft SST. Next in the line up is a CVX-20, Sleekcraft Rebel, Jolly Roger, and a Tahitti donor boat.

The SST has a stock Chevy(Panther?) 454 OT Headers with a Holly Carb, vacuum secondaries. The motor is still running on the old points ignition, and still havent even checked the timing. :D

The pump is a JG Berk with a Jetovator (Cant wait to get rid of it with a place and a droop) The impeller is a brand new AA cut.

This weekend I was just crusing around the lake when I saw a twin engine twin hull Baja boat I wanted to race.... he SO won but I beat him to just under 60 lol. I was able to get her up to 58.9 MPH on gps (rough water) turning roughly 4900RPMs. I think on smooth water with one person I could hit a little of 60 at around 5000rpm. Two ppl on smooth water could hit 57.

What are some suggestions/thoughts about my set up here? We plan on getting a Loader and a droop snoot already. Possibly will be replacing the jetovator with a place diverter too. I would like to be able to hit the high 70's or low 80's with out having to add a supercharger or drop big bucks on the motor. We have other jetboats to rebuild 1st.

That Jolly Roger is interesting. It looks like a splash of a wriedt hull, cant remember the name of the model but the deck and transom areas look identical.
I too would like so see some more pics of the CVX-20. I love those boats...

haha I wish we had deep pockets to make all of these boats half as nice as most of ya'lls... We are just going to get them into good running condition and turn a profit on a few to break even on the others. As for pics of the CVX, I left my external hard drive that has my CVX pictures on it at school. Ya'll will have to wait about 6 weeks to get some, I'm about to leave for some military training. So far no boat (other than the SST) has more than a grand in it. I think I plan on selling the Jolly, and MAYBE the SST. I bought the Jolly bc we used to have a green one when I was a kid. First jet I had ever seen.

The CVX is my dads and he might replace our CrissCraft with that one lol

Thanks for the compliments on the SST, I sure like it a lot too :D

How is the Jolly Roger Project coming along?
Right now we are passively working on that one. Considering different engine ideas. Debating between rebuilding the 455 we have, getting a used 455 or 454, or possibly putting in a small block 350 (mostly because that 455 was a PITA to get out of the engine compartment:)st)

As it sits, we have the interior about ready to go in but we still need to replace the stringers and double check the rest of the floor. We fixed up the trailer and relived the stress on the hull which luckily took the hook out of it too.

Thanks for the update! Sounds like you still have quite a bit of work ahead of you there! Would love to see some pictures, as you progress.

yeah still tons of work to be done on all the boats. I was out for most of this summer for military training so I have gotten much of anything done this year. If the cold doesnt keep me away I'm gonna work on em a lot this winter.

Worked on the Rebel some, good news is the motor is NOT shot! It was getting water in the oil, pulled the heads (they had not had a valve job like the seller claimed) as well as the intake and replaced the turkey pan, boom problem fixed! Runs like a champ now!

Gotta throw the pump back in it and will hopefully have a water test or two to talk some numbers with!

Ok so we are scratching our heads now. My dad ran the 455 in the Rebel on the hose (no pump) for a good 20 minutes and never got water in the oil. He drained the block and put the boat up. put the pump together and back in the boat and then we go to change the oil (we were using old used oil to test for leaks) and the oil is milky! So we cant figure out how say F it lets put the new oil in, take it to the ramp and run it on the trailer. We do just that and BOOM water in the oil again.

So lucky us we have been stalking Craigslist and have several running 455s and 454s (enough to match up with our ultimate goal for all these boats) so we are dropping in the next 455 now to see how it runs. The Rebel is our test bed for these motors since it is SUPER easy to take motors in and out of it. We are gonna run this bad boy first or second week of March

As for the SST. We put a loader on it and will be taking it out the same week to see if we cant squeeze a few more MPH out of her without touching the motor yet. Next will be a droop and a place divereter as our jetovater doesnt affect the ride hardly at all and the boat isnt airing out enough.

More updates to come as well as pictures of the CVX-20 as promised!

Sounds like you are making some progress. If you don't get the oil temp over 212* you can get condensation in the oil. With the water temps where they are right now, that may be your issue. Even running it onthe hose for 20 minutes if that was all at idle it may not have gotten the oil up to temp. Just a thought.

That is what we were thinking so we ran it on the ramp at a higher RPM and varied the RPMs for a good 30+ minutes. Shut it down and checked the oil, it was about a quart high and very milky. That engine is out of the boat now so we'll put it up on a stand and break it down to see if we can find a cause for the water in the oil.

I like the way you guys think when you're getting these boats together. Build 'em and run 'em! As it's been said, not getting the oil up to temp will cause condensation and some milkyness. It sounds like there is a crack in the block or heads somewhere that is causing the mix issue.

Oh and let me know when you want to unload that Jet-O-Vater, I'll take it off your hands. ;)

Thanks, and we definitely will let you know when we take off that Jet-O-Vater.

I found some boring vids of the SST that I shot when we were testing something or another but they are higher quality than the one I already put up so Ill throw em on youtube for the heck of it and post links in here tonightish

So I looked up my numbers and my earlier post was wrong. The SST ran 58.8mph @5200rpm. We put a loader on it and now it runs a frustrating 58.8mph @4800rpm lol. We were hoping to break 60... anywho here is a video of two of the test runs



Other news, the old 455 is out of the Rebel. We'll take that one apart later on to look for the reason for all the water in the oil. First we want to run this thing and see how she does. So we are cleaning up another 455 (the future engine for the Jolly Roger) and will be dropping it in hopefully at the end of this week. We check the compression on this motor and its solid all the way around. (dont have my exact numbers with me) so not bad for a $200 craigslist find ;)

Hartwell but we live in Atlanta so I plan on visiting Alatoona a fair amount. How about you, are you a Georgia boater?
I know those lakes well. The kids and I visit my folks in Oakwood every summer and we tow our 13' Boston Whaler behind us and spend the week on Lake Lanier. This year I think we are going to bring our jet boat out, not sure yet.

We live about 45 mile Northeast of Dallas Texas.
