Game Over-Tom Peterson Placecraft build Thread.

Figured I'd start posting about the new river boat. I don't have a ton of pics yet so please be patient with me because I have very little time to update the thread. I'm hoping to be on the water before next summer but that will depend on how much free time to I get to rig the boat. Right now I've got a pile of parts in the shop and the engine just arrived from Sonny Leonard (thanks to B1 for taking delivery while I was out of town!) so I couldn't resist weighing the thing and hanging it in the hull to see how it looked. I was very surprised to see the engine only weighs a little over 600 pounds given how giant the heads are. Its only about 30 lbs heavier than the old 4.84 bore space Chevy I used to run.

The plan is to build my own turbo kit with twin 88mm Precision turbos, wastegates, blowoff valve and intercooler. This'll be my first legit turbo engine and I'm already cringing at how much all of the turbo parts weigh compared to my old nitrous parts. Oh well, at least it will look shiny and make ridiculous power. Enjoy!

Details- The hull is a 19-foot Placecraft laid up by Tom Peterson last summer. It has a super stiff bottom, lightweight sides and top. It weighs 418 lbs. It's hard to see in the crappy iPhone pics but the gel is a beautiful mix of metalflake silver, orange and blue sprayed by the guys at Advantage Boats in Havasu and finished by Scott Kornowski. I'm super impressed by all of the works those guys did. It's one of the nicest laminated hulls I've ever seen.

The intake is a new Miersch low-profile unit set in the boat by Starkweather. Stark has already started on the jet drive and has been a huge source of inspiration/know-how for setting up the boat up.

The engine is a 711ci Sonny Leonard Chevy with his cast aluminum Hemi heads. The block is a 5.0 bore space Brodix with a Sonny Bryant 5.120-stroke crank, Carrillo rods and 4.700-inch bore CP pistons. The intake is a billet SRE piece topped with a massive Accufab throttle body. I'm using a Holley Dominator ECU because it will control the EFI, ignition, boost and do the datalogging for the boat as well. Still debating whether to run the Jesel front mount distributor or go coil-on-plug. I dynod the engine with both systems and saw no gains either way (not that I really expected there to be difference in power) and given that I'm probably never going to put more than 15 psi to this thing the COP isn't really necessary.

The engine made 950 lb-ft of torque and 1,225 hp on pump gas and peaks at about 7,500 rpm.

I'm calling the boat "Game Over" because I don't think I'll build another one again. lol

Here's the bare hull on the new White Flag Racing stainless steel trailer. Oh yeah, the trailer rides on airbags, too.

She will be a ripper !! Bad ass keep the updates coming:|err
BEAUTIFUL! wow mike thats nice man but didnt expect any less.. stick with c.o.p or dis(moss is a source of great knowledge using it). Lotta spool performance to be had, being able to taylor my timing curves the way i wanna sure improved how my mill spools. im running 70's on a 5.3 & leaving with rehr morrison built big inch nitrous deals, partly due to ignition control.the fuel you mentioned using wld easily take the n.a. timing curve further into boost before ramping timing out slowly, not sharply.

Game Over is definately a fit!!
I haven't logged in for a long time .... I do then see this ................

you sure you even need the turbos :hmmm: ?

very nice Finn very nice.
When I was just a youngster I remember you building your last boat on hotboat. I got so much motivation from you and that boat. Now, after i've got a few boat builds under my belt... BAM you show back up, and set the bar up another 50 notches. I can't wait to see this thing progress!!

Congrats Mike, it's beautiful.
Beautiful, thanks for posting up. Cant wait to see this beast in action.
Glad it finally came out Finn. Awesome
Congrats Mike

That placecraft looks insane Mike. The colors and design are off the hook. Never seen a Sonny motor in one of these either....top notch for sure. I don't know shit about turbo stuff, but the combo of parts are going to make big power even without the turbos, so I imagine its going to be a rocket.
Say hi to the family.

:shhh: ;)
great to see it coming together mike.

just don't know if anyone could take a picture that would do this thing justice... the metalflake in the color is just blinding...
Just awesome mike!
Im in love with it already

that thing is just STUPID ..... and I mean that in the best kind of way. :thumb:
I'm not sure anyone will be able to ever raise the bar higher than this. Just over the top on all aspects.:))THumbsUp
That thing is badazz!!! I'm totally jealous. I dream of someday building a new boat from ground up. Can't wait to see yours when it's done.

Definitely going to play with timing and fuel to make it spool. I'm excited to learn how all of that works to make it leave hard.
