I'm waiting to make complete judgement until 2010. If their line up is econo shit box cars then they will die. 5 years from now they will be gone for a year or two.

IF! BIG IF! The still make the suv, truck and performance line it may limp out of this. I won't buy another until they pay back the government what they took.

They really pissed me off. I'm pretty loyal. 2006 diesel, 2007 Escalade & 67 Camaro. I was looking at a CTS-V. Now looking for a used AMG Mercedes.

F the union!

I'm even rooting for Carl Edwards now! Go Ford!

I was actually going to purchase a new CTS-V myself until all this stuff went down. The way the bankruptcy was handled thoroughly disgusted me. I think you right about the performance lines and trucks, and suvs. If they curb them much, there done.

I surely hope they pull through but have never know an govt owned business to do well. I know the postal service has done fairly well but think thats the rare exception.

Like someone posted earlier. Small green cars. Then they will raise the fuel to $10 gal. So you will have to buy one. Its the socialist way. We will all be driving the same car.( Can you imagine that. This is what happened in all the commie countrys untill the great POTHUS Ronald Reagen, made everyone free ) it just wont be in the color black, for all save the planet people.

Honda makes the best econo sheit box's. Why would you buy a sketchy gubmit motas POS? They can't compete in this area. The younger and or frugal crowd who buys hondas are looking for value and reliability. This is not synonymous with American made econo vechiles.

There are several business and entepanuer books I've read that stress not to try compete with someone who is at the top of their game making a product that is superior to what you can come up with.

Toyota took 30 + years of selling econo cars and trucks to beat GM here in the us. Gm can't do it.

Not so much. I bought an Accord last year. WAY more inferior than previous Hondas we've owned. Brake and computer problems at less than 15K. Car complaints.com lists it as the emerging worst car of 2008. It's a frikkin Honda accord. Supposedly the best made, best selling car they make! Not anymore I guess.

I bought an 08 Civic SI(4 door) last year, its been everything I expected. I'm kind of surprised to hear that about the Accord.

Well, I'm disgusted to say the least. I'm learning about factory warranties and what they DO NOT cover. It's just a little ridiculous that a brand new car, a Honda no less, would need anything at 15K other than oil changes.

I still don't understand the attraction to the jap cars. I've been driving new Fords and Dodges with no problems for over 25 years. Just lucky?

500 America has been sold. Jap cars have as many problems as any other.
Go to a dealership and look at the service tickets in their parking lot. They are in for Major stuff just like the American cars are. Stop by a transmission shop. pretty equal.

The Jap manufacturers have just spent a lot of money advertising in Consumer reports & Motor Trend therefore they have received good ratings in return.

The American mfgrs have just been out propagandized for the last 20 years.

This is a tough call as the situation of today is not like when chrysler was bailed out not so many years ago.

If they are not still attached to the feds they will be in dire straits due to the economy never really rebounding in that time frame.

I would be willing to bet GM is sold off in parts and pieces until they are just another foriegn entity.

Think about Amtrak. The government was supposed to be out of that in 5 years. Now it just looses money on a daily basis. I have a feeling GM will end up just like Amtrak. Especially with the unions now owning a portion.

trust me, I kicked and screamed all the way but in the end, it was up to the wife. She drives the thing mostly. She's had two others that ran flawlessly beyond 100K. The attraction? Don't know really. I prefer Ford. Her entire family, except for the hippie, he drives a Ford (go figure), drives Hondas.

I will consider buying a GM when every cent of taxpayer money is repaid, ownership is not majority UAW, government doesn't own one share of stock, and the cars are made in the US with over 75-80% parts made and sourced in the USA.

That day will never happen. They will either be on permanent government life support, go chapter 7, or be purchased by foreign interests.
