Planning my annual trip in June (I know I'm wayyyyy early but trying to keep my mind occupied through the winter) and have some questions for those that know the lake well. Earlier this year was the first time I had my boat up there; we rented a house in the Keys and spend most of our lake time hanging out in Emerald Bay/cove. Going to rent a house in the keys again next year but wondering what are the best things to do on the lake? I was thinking of maybe motoring all the way to north shore if there is anywhere worth going? Also, is there any place over by the casinos where you could tie up your boat and walk a reasonable distance to get to the little strip? The tentative plan is to be there at the end of June if anyone is going to be around. Here is a few pics from this year's trip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdj_zVUqqBM

There is a string of beaches on the east shore that are beautiful. Hike or boat in only (some with a rather liberal dress code). The water there is shallow, crystal clear and not as cold (five miles south of Sand Harbor). It's not really a party lake. You can't beach the boat and walk to any casinos.

Not seeing that spot on the map....know where I could find a map of the location you are talking about?

Not sure about a spot to get to the North Shore casinos but one my favorite spots is Garwoods on Carnelian Bay. Nice dock with valet service for those boats that moor on the bouys. Good drinks...try the Wet Woody...151 Rum, nice! Sand Harbor is a nice place to chill. The clear water always freaks me out as I think I about to run aground.

Hey Millhouse

It's never too early.I'd like to assume you're doing the Shasta Cat attack thing June 18-21. We've done two and this year will be three,GREAT trip!:)devil Bridge Bay resort is the place and YES we already have our reservations!:D

I was talking to the wife this last weekend thinking a weekend,or week for that matter, renting a house at the Keys would be pretty cool! Oh and AvengedSevenfold for the background music for your Tahoe video is WAY cool!:)devil

Thanks for the comments! We won't be up there until the end of June, so don't think we'll make the Cat attack unfortunately. Most likely we are looking at June 26-29 and it is going to be a guy's trip this time, so look for the boat blaring Avenged Sevenfold, Nonpoint, HedPE, Sevendust, etc. with a bunch of drunk guys up to no good :D

BTW, can anyone point me to a map that labels all these great areas? I found Garwoods but none of the others...

I've rented 2 different houses out there and it is a blast. It's really cool to be able to walk out the back door to your boat, party on the lake, then back to the house without every having to get in a car. If there was only a way to boat over to the stateline casinos it would be perfect! :)devil

Tahoe

Not much action on the lake until July. The main event up there for performance boats is Poker Runs West run which will be on July 18, 2009. This year event is being held in conjunction with the celebrity pro-am golf tournament. www.pokerrunswest.com A bunch of us will be up there the entire week of July 13.

Besides the previously mentioned Garwoods there is Captain Jon's on the north shore, the city dock in Tahoe City gives you access to all the places there, Hyatt's dock in Incline will get you to the casinos in that area, Sunnyside and Chambers landing on the West Shore and Camp Richardson near the keys are all great spots.

Thanks for the info. Poker run would be fun, but I have a feeling I'd be the slowest guy out there....don't know if my ego could take that :)st

Speaking of speed, what pitch of prop do you guys turn up there? Normally I run a 24p 4 blade bravo I but when in Tahoe the boat was REALLY slow out of the hole. Any ideas?

Ah, this is the beach talked about earlier in the thread with "liberal" dress code policy?
There are about five little coves there.

Secret Cove - nude beach, can't get a boat in there.

Chimney beach not nude. Can get a boat in there. There is a rock chimney at the waters edge left from a cabin that was once there.

Skunk Harbor in the pic. Can get a boat in there. Gets filled up though.

Nude part behind some the rock s in the last pic.

Nice!

Never made it north of Powell, but might after seeing your pics! What kind of water temps are there in July?

55-60 in the middle of the lake and about 63 - 67 on the east side where the big rocks are in the water. It actually feels good once you're in. Swimming under water and seeing the bottom of your boat your drive and your prop from 30' away is pretty cool.
