uh-oh, what hoppen here? This sucker got hot! Strange part is, the other seven are flawless. This thing siezed the pin in the rod, tore up the ring land, the dome is sagged about an 1/8. Hard see in the pics, but the underside of the dome is jet black. I have a clue as to what happened, but don't want to turn the t-ram over to Shaun:D until I know for sure. It's the #5 cyl, but really shouldn't matter much considering it's a t-ram. I am just glad it didn't turn out to be the pistons fault, I had pretty hi expectations for them

What did the intake gasket look like? I just find it odd the pin got that hot. Detonation can do funny things once it gets going but........
No it was not an intake gasket, it was a scewed K&N stub stack in the air cleaner, turned about 20-25*, it's kinda hard to visulize why, but it disrupted the air over the booster and it couldn't see the velcity/pressure drop correctly. And on a t-ram at speed, this can never be good. Look at this pic and maybe it will make a little sense. It didn't seem to have an effect on the secondary side, probably due to the round opening compared to the primary,but imagine this thing rotated CW 20* and the effect on the primaries. And mostly the one on the lower right of the pic

I had something like that in my head for some reason but it didnt make sense to me why I was thinking this. My second guess was actualy going to be a pluged jet or float screwed up.... something along those lines. That is a pretty crappy way to have an engine get hurt.

I remember a pm about t-rams not so very long ago. Stuff like this was why I was asking questions.

Bottom line ... racing is racing and stuff does and will break.

years ago, I had a blade of grass go down the bowl vent and in up in the jet of this same t-ram set up, did quite do this much damage, but knocked the rod bearing to hell! That's why I wanted to check everything over before turning this deal over to Shaun, but the carbs seem ok and THAT main jet circuit flows fine.
Had a jet extension screw up once (one of those never again push on ones) Got lucky, just killed the plug.

Broke a couple rings and curled a ring land once because a rotor came loose.

OHHH YESS these things happen, no question about it.

If that's what you have come up with then fine!!!! but just a thought! If you think it is only a carb problem then why are the skirts showing so much scarring. The reason I posted on this thread was to maybe get you to look at the possibilty of maybe a dry hole!!! Even with a lean cyclinder why would the skirts be so scared. If the rings are doing what they are supposed to do why the damage under the rings? If it were me I would check PTW and the ring stack on that cyclinder. M

For starters, the pin was seizing, thats the major thrust side, the other side is much much better(look at the first pic in the thread and no that pic does not show a black skirt, it dry film coated). If the hole was that dry, don't you think the other side would be all most as jacked up? I understand how 1 hole can go lean, but how do you go about keeping oil from getting thrown up on 1 side of 1 cyl with out drying all the other sides of all the other cylinders? And let's not dismiss the fact this piston got hotter than hell. You have any idea how many 2 stroke engine in this world have seized with plenty of oil in the fuel? I don't care how much oil is on the wall, there comes a point where the heat wins and the lube loses.
