Well it's time, I feel the need to mount 3-4 cameras with other related recording equipment.
Any feedback on 'good' moderately priced systems etc would be greatly appreciated.
Must be color, offer good night vision and of course be able to record.
F'ing scum renters! (((((

PS-I see a lot of 2-6 camera kits on eBay ($4-$600)...but don't know if they're any good.

I've purchased 2 Swann systems at Costco. Real easy to setup, internet connectioned, recording and they come with everything, mounting hardware, cables, cameras, DVR. I got a 8 camera recently for $750 and the 16 camera system for around $1600.

Also it just stores on a PC and you can view from the internet. Easy to install and super easy to use. You can also set it up to send you a email with a video clip if you get movement at a certain time of the day. Its pretty cool to view your cameras from your cell phone.

There are a lot of systems out on the market today. It just depends on what you want to do. Example if you want to see your neighbor steal your newspaper any camera system will really work. But if you want facial recognition of a thief or even a license plate number make sure you have at least a 'Real time" recorder (Meaning 30 FPS Per camera (Frames per second)) and for storing that data a true H.264E Video Compression. For the Cameras make sure you have a min of 470 LTV Resolution and at least 50' IR Range for night.

Just remember you get what you pay for!

I bought a old used laptop for $200 bucks and it works great. It just sits on my network and does its job and also acts as the monitor.

I did 8 cameras and a 500gig DVR. I have it set up through my internet also so I can view from my smart phone, or any PC. Even if you dont buy from these guys, give them a call for a second opinion before spending your $$$.

When I installed mine, I did it when my neighbors (who I have problems with) were at work or out of town. I made it as discrete as possible so they did not know I had cameras for about 5 weeks. I sugest the same if your trying to catch someone doing something to your property.

What are the "renters" doing?

Well...they moved in with 6 kids/animals 4/08
Lots of noise outside till late in the evening and no respect for anyones property. I first ask in a polite way " could you please turn it down a little it's late 10:30pm and I have to get up for work at 4am >the mother went off on me and I could see a trend starting. Last year they started with a open pit fire out front of the house, 25 years I've NEVER seen anyone burn a fire on their front lawn WTF, do they think they're camping at the mountains! When I told them the smoke was coming in my and other peoples homes(windows up/nice night) they got all pissed so, then I called the cops. When I come home from work the next day someone or something took a razor to my back screen door! Guess that was a warning for me...F'em!
Jump to two weeks ago...I always attend my township meetings once a month and I mention the "renters" are doing the open fires again...Chief of Police tells me just call 911 pronto. I come home from the meeting 7:30PM (nice night) and I could see the fire from down the block but this time it was 3' from the house. They see me drive by and of course they surmises I call 911, the cops were pissed and give them their final warning.
So...the very next night I hear the father (reminds me of Petter Griffin) talking to a 1/2 dozen or so juveniles 10/14 years old out back. It's dark but his flood light comes on (dumb F) but he can't see I'm standing at my rear kitchen slider over hearing everything...I hear the guy tell the kids to vandalize my property > he goes into detail and even tells them "I won't chase after them because of a bad knee". The retard even said he would buy the kids pizza for doing the deed. I hear EVERYTHING!
I call 911 and report what I heard, the next day I tell the township detective and Chief of Police and file a report...they tell me what he did is a Terroristic Threat!
The DA ok'ed a bench warrant for the fathers arrest. Juvenile Division is talking to the minors he spoke with and also charging him with influencing and corrupting the minds of juveniles.
The guy's ass can be in really hot water yet, his wife is still mouthing off outside about "I'm the assh*le" sphss
6-kids, neither of the parents work, and while I'm at work busting my ars I'm having chest pains about these animals and what they could do to my house/truck and especially my boat >I can't get insurance on.
PS... as it turns out, the local police know about this family...they've been bouncing around the township causing problems where ever they roost. >lucky me.

I think my neighbors are relatives of your neighbors. We have a mutual No Trespass. Meaning, neither one can step on each others property. To take it one step further, no one acting as an agent for another can step on anothers property. So they cant get the sons friends to come on my property and trash my stuff. It can be difficult to prove and inforce; unless you have proof, like video!

You can also go to the courts and ask for a TPO (Temporary Protection Order). It would not even allow them to talk or look at you, its handled by the courts and you would get an emergency hearing in front of a judge.
