1974 hot damn hondo 006 back in the water!

My dad and uncle have owned this boat since fall of 1975. They are the third owners of the boat and it is still in their possession today. My dad raced it for years until he had my brother and I. The 006 is under the 703 number, you can still see it but not in the pictures. The "hot damn" is still visible in the right light. My dad wanted me to post these pictures on here so here it goes.

Hey GN is 124.65mph going to be enough to qualify????
I think the boat in the pic with the speed and record on the transom is a different boat. Probably earlier that the one the OP has. Not sure how many 006 Hot Damn Hondos there were, but I think at least as many as there were Mouses(MICE??) The HDH with the speed on the transom is white gel coat and the OP's is blue flake. I am pretty sure that the speed is lower because the 006 ran UBGF at the time that boat ran. That pic looks to be an original period pic and the boat looks like it has injection stacks. Jerry may have an ad showing it. Somebody else may know as well.
The fact that the OP's is listed as a 74 is interesting because Mike Brendel set a few records that year.
I don't remember that exact boat the OP posted. Where there the Mouse was always the same basic identifiable look and color scheme, the 006 had numerous paint jobs thru the years.
Its also entirely possible the boat the OP has is not the exact boat that set the records. It wasn't uncommon for a new boat to have the record painted on it that was set by the previous boat. At least until that record fell. :wink2:
Makes no difference which HDH 006 it is, it still a bad ass piece of history to own.

my comments also relate to the "shockwave" thread that is on going. the first dragboat race I attended was at Lake St. Louis MO. circa 1974. there is a magazine cover in the other thread with it on the cover. Any way two pickups pulled in the pits with name Hondo Boats Sylmar Calif. one had in tow the "shockwave" blown fuel hydro that was to be driven by Mac Christenson and the other powder blue pickup was towing the hot damn Hondo driven by Mike Brendel. Long time ago but as I recall Hot Damn Hondo's colors were orange with some black striping, don't recall the other colors. again that is almost 40 years ago so if I am icorrect on something I apologize. I do remember about the only boat that was even close to the 006 was the "black Russian" I believe driven by Mike Stevens. think there were running ubf flat class. by the way my Stevens with a 396 ran a whooping 74mph!!!

Same boat different motor. Mike brendel owned it first and sold it to rip smith which is who my dad and his brother bought it from. Dave Wayt is my dad and bob is his brother. It's the real deal, there's no reason for me to bs here. My dad was 99% sure the record was set in UBGF but I didn't post that because it wasn't 100%. If anybody has a way to get ahold of mike or rip, send them in here please, my dad would be thrilled.

Never said or even thought you were BSing anybody. Looking at the original pic is enterly possible the boat is silver flake and doesn't show well in a old pic like it does in the ones you took. Having the picture in your hand and not looking at a scanned imagine I am sure you can tell better than anybody here. sorry is it sounded like I doubted you, because I did not. But there was a string of HDH 006 boats. Any one of which is a piece of history.
The Panic Mouse in the restoration thread was #4 if I am not mistaken. That does not make it any less valued and less coveted than #5 or #3 if they existed.
As far as I know, the records that Mike Brendel set in 1974 were for UBGF.

The boat had NDBA high point champion on it when my dad and uncle got it, in the same spot where the world record holder had been. HE said if anybody can check the NDBA records. The boat went from 006 when Brendel drove it, to 589 which was rip smiths number. They had to put a 1 in front of the number at Dayton to race, and then my dad was given the number 703.

When we were redoing "Panic Mouse" I was wondering about the old NDBA records and where they were located. What I was told that none of the NDBA records were archived. They have apparently been discarded. What a shame. If that is not the case someone please correct me because I would like to see them too.
