I'm considering a DCB Mach 22 with a 500 HP in it.

The one thing I'm surprised at it is not that fast. Does 78 on GPS, that what I'm been told.

Maybe that is what is should do, but I thought closer to the 90 range??

and I assume a Daytona & Cougar would be in the same speed range??

my buddy had a mtr w/hp500 aqnd was 80-82 mph. Thats a great all around boat considering speed, reliability, drivability. when finances get better, and after I get another 19mtr, a 22' cougar is on the list.

We ran a 22 daytona#06 w/496 ho in the mid 80s

we ran the latest model 22 daytona#07 hull w/525 merc at 95

We ran a #06 22 daytona w/verado outboard 82

we ran a #07 22 daytona w/twin 300xs at 112

we ran a 19 mtr cougar w/300 xs 108

we ran a 21 mtr cougar w/ 2.5 280 102

It took a lot of work to hit the set up to get the #s

Good luck

Wow? I remember hotboat testing the 22 stoker with a 500hp ran 95mph! It was like 10mph faster than almost anything in its class!
I rememer that, they also had an ad for it, red boat, looks like a v bottom (but is is a mod V)

And I think the 22 talon was quoted @ over 90 with a 502???

Thanks for all the numbers, Its amazing how much speed is lost for having an I/O. I assume that is because a tunnel runs on air, V8 weights at least another 600+ lbs, so it does not get the lift needed??

With the I/O's you had, what sort of X dimension did you have? Where they shorty drives?

I'm wondering why my boat is as quick as it is. I have a20'7" eliminator v bottom with a pad, running a 454 Magnum, CMI headers, nose one, raised drive (cavitation is about 3-4" above the bottom) and running on fumes, no back seat, cold weather I've doen 82 on GPS, and runs 78 MPH with 1/2 tank or less any season. Maybe due to it being a lighter boat??

I would have thought the tunnels would be a good 10 MPH faster?

I like the 22 daytona best, outboard w/twins best for speed and fuel mileage

The 300xs get 3mpg running between 50-100 mph over 6000 rpm the mileage drops to 2.7 mpg

The 525 XR drive package is a great lower speed handling boat

Cougar reunions3.jpg Cougar reunions1.jpg

This was the first 22 Cougar at the 99 reunion had not made an engine cover yet, if I remember it was just touching 90mph with one in the boat. It needed more prop as it was hitting the limiter, not sure what the final speed was.

In my opinion, the best inboard 22' tunnel is by far the Stoker. Al said that with more dialing-in after the magazine article was over with, he got that boat to run 100 mph!

touching 90 sound right to me, that's why I was so surprised @ the DCB with 500 only doing 78

P.S. That's a great looking MTR!

Maybe the DCB has 600lbs of stereo in the nose, could be driver..
How deep the drive is plays a huge role

Pretty sure the padded engine cover is close to a person.
Seems to me the Cougar stern drive is a bit faster than the DCB, but the DCB outboard version seems faster than the Cougar???
That Stoker is an impresssive boat, that Hot Boat test was amazing. If I was going stern drive well worth a look IMO, besides it will out corner bolth the others.
Cougar had an 18' version similar to the Stokers, hang a 2.5 260 or 280 on the back and you would swear it was on rails it was just nuts. Had a friend with a pumped up 260 and a L&S Torque Shift prop started at 14" pitch and went to 32" WOW!

I had one of those L&S shifters about 22 years ago
Impressive holeshot to 65mph,but that is where it ends
You cannot surface them even slightly or they would throw blades like a samari warrior:)st

I think the drive is probably too low. The one I'm looking at is a 1997, and they did not have shorty's back then (I don't think they did, and regardless, he has stock drive)

The boat is out of state, and now the water is frozen, so no point on making a trip to look at it, without being able to test drive it.

The DCB's I/O's engine sit high up, and the drives look mounted as high as possible.

That's why I'm trying to find out what x dimension works for the tunnels with i/o's
