GM steel crank in an original 12.5 to 1 L-88 427, Crower injected flat bottom? This is a buddy of mine that was sold a standard crank that ended up being a core, and he is worried "after" having it cleaned up to 20/20 and balancing it that it won't last (which is a bad decision in imho)? This is a 1968 18' Hondo that has NEVER been rigged and is a perfect show quality winner hands down. It will never get raced, will probably run c10 - c 12 gas, hyd roller and all he wants is a badd ass river runner. We are on the Delta in Antioch so runable days are numbered due to the lack of smooth water, but basically it's a deal like "my boat is better than your boat" kind of thing. I told him $1500 is not worth ending up with a block that isn't even a core, but on the other hand it's his first flatty and I'm sure he will scare the shit out of himself like I did, so based on that I told him to go with it and grow into more motor as your balls drop...lol Again, this is a boat that is being built because "my buddies all have one" and his will be the prettiest by far. The biggest factor is having a boat that gives you the rush, and stays together. This guy isn't crazy like me and another guy who drive shit like we stole it, but your input is greatly appreciated. I would trust it as long as it was checked for cracks. Also depends on how much H.P. as well. I would trust it to at least 500. Maybe a bit more.

Regrind with good corner radii, mag for cracks, and run the crap out of it. I'd trust it to way more than 500hp.

I ran an unballanced cast crank 20/20 in a 13 to 1 , 468 , 6000 rpm on a B impeller. But I was drunk:|err and lucky :)hand I ran that motor for 6 seasons.

Stupid question but if you don't ask you don't learn can someone define 20 20 as it is being used here? thanks

what he said:D a crank properly ground with the correct fillet radius at .020 under is going to be much stronger than a standard stock grind!
have seen a lot of standard cranks with almost no radius to speak of,
in the application you are speaking about, I would not have a problem
running it!
