I know alot of people always ask questions about identification of their BBC engines from many different years. I have had to do the same on a recently purchased boat engine and found it to be a nightmare of information because GM wasn't the greatest bookeeper.

Anyway here are some sights that may help you with casing and ID #

The casing number is at the back above the bell housing flange and the engine ID is on the tab at the front passenger side head or on a tab right above the timing cover.

The Mortec site was what a lot of people went to, until it disappeared earlier this year. I have been meaning to search around for other sites that would have the same info, thanks.
