My sons 17ft winger gets a little loose in the ass when it's up and running. There are no fins on the intake to help keep it from wanting to wonder around or slipping in a turn. This pump does have a ride plate. Question I have is how would you cure this problem short of swaping intakes. Also no rudder, but they don't work worth a s#!t anyway. any suggestions.

I wonder if mounting some home made fins to the sides of the ride plate would work ??

Have asked this ques. before. I think your idea of fins on the rideplate sounds like it may work. Easy fix if it does. I think I'll try it this summer.

Buy a stainless steel turning fin from REX, mill a slot in the center of your ride plate and bolt it in, did that on mine worked great.

I have a small keel in front of my intake...bout 4-5". Its a bolt on thru hull.

Some good ideas here. I'll throw them at him and see where it goes. I kinda like the stainless fin in the middle of the ride plate. Now if he don't beach it that should do the trick.

Buy a stainless steel turning fin from REX, mill a slot in the center of your ride plate and bolt it in, did that on mine worked great.

yeah I'd like to see it as well ... my "F" pump doesn't have fins either and it's REAL loose in a little chop ... sticks fine if the water is flat tho' ....

Don personally I'd pull the motor and snake a "new"intake into is (or repair the fins ) lots of support here , some grunt work but actually a pretty simple job , got complete photo deal on this if you and the kid want to take the plunge Tom

Do any "F" pump intakes have fins? Also I think that I may use a alum or SS "C" channel inverted for a ride plate. Then It would be like it had 2 smaller fins.

Have actually seen this done (past photos) as well as considered it to combat that "a$$ end on butter" feeling some boats expirience but never gone there , On Panther ride plates for example we sometimes fabricate two fairly deep fins (one on either side of the rideplate) Honestly not certain how one would go about attachment to an "E" or "F" intake area succesfully and safely , hardware changes like that can create handling issues as well ... I tried to talk him into that before I started this thread. I have set an intake before. My first jet was a trade in hull and totaly striped of metal. Bought a new Dominator G pump with intake, transom cover,throttle, sterring and shift cables, and PTO for $1600 from Evin Capps, he showed me how to set it up and epoxy it in. I ran that boat for 9 years with no issues with a SBC, Oh he also threw in a used set of small block headers. Try loading the parts bin with all that for $1600 now. I've been hooked every sense.

Commander used a lot of insert pumps ,when they did they would install a cast alium. fin to each side of the of the insert inlet thus giving the effect as having a intake style pump. Ultra also used the same technique ,the trick now is trying to find the castings. Someone has the mold , I just have't been able to find out who.
