Hi all,

I have been reading numerous threads for shoes, ride plates, delta bottoms etc, but havent quite found the answers i seek. I have just removed the intake from my 19' Bahner bubbledeck with delta bottom to re-set the intake. While i am here, i am recessing the small section of the flat delta area behind the intake for a ride plate assembly.
I will be leaving my pump in standard location with the inspection hole on the intake accessable from inside.

Previously the intake was mounted flush with the delta pad (Both on the front leading edge & the biting edge of the intake hole)
After speaking with Tom Manier, he has told me the delta pad kicks up from the true keel line. (I have not yet measured this angle on my hull)

Should i remount the intake level with the delta pad? Or mount it lower to be level with the true keel line?

From what i have read, deltas ride on the pad when at speed, so makes me think i should be mounting it level with the pad, irresepective of the true keel line.... This however concerns me with lower speed operation when the boat is not riding on the pad....
With my ride plate assembly, I will most likely run a backcut shoe which i will machine and install level with the front leading edge of the intake, but then shim 1/8" down after installation as to 'Go down and get the water' as i have read is required with Delta bottoms....

I've done a rough drawing showing an installation level with the delta pad.... shoe shimmed down 1/8. Made the drawing an over exagerated representation of what the true keel line would look like..... I either install this way, or drop the intake to be level with the true keel line....

Any thoughts?

For a 50 mph ski boat, your way will work fine.

If you are trying to gain performance, definitely find someone in your area that is savay on the job and pay to have it done right.

If your looking for the best speed and acceleration, then go all out and remove the delta pad and set the intake back some. However, if you don't leave it alone and just put the traditional bolt on parts on it. I have done a few of these boats, and they will rip with little power. However, they drive loose/free, and don't turn well with the mods to the bottom. May have some photos and specs if you really want to turn the hull over and do it. Don't believe your keel actually has that angle compared to the delta pad though.

I would follow Tom's direction on mounting the intake. I don't think you will have any low speed handling issues.
