I'm looking at replacing my current interior with new wood and new upholstery. I've thought about putting in fiberglass buckets rather than wood, any recommendations? If I do go with wood, are there any tricks to the front buckets?

Thanks,

Ben

Lots of Folks are upgrading to Glass Buckets and benches , clean modern look much simpler and cost effective than traditional plywood , our Glass buckets and benches for example weigh less than 50 lbs combined(w/o covers) and are virtually unbreakable , weight savings helps performance ,not to mention the covers can be stripped of for storage simple to install and cover, may not have that classic look but still nice Tom

Fiberglass is really the easiest way to go. It'll be easier to upholster as well. When I made mine I made the backs with 2 pieces of 1/4" ply. I glued them with waterproof glue, screwed and clamped them like crazy. I made 2 pieces that resembled the bottom piece radius, one for the top and one for the bottom. Once the wood was all dry, I unscrewed it all and the backs were curved. Then I cut the rough shape out with a jigsaw. Then I did multiple layers of cloth and mat in the corners and around the edges. The whole thing got multiple coats of resin. It's a lot of work, but very doable.

Why do you want to get rid of the front reclining buckets?

Been there. I blew out the sides of my front buckets.

I had a shop do mine new interior. I can't remember if it was the old or new interior, but where the back was curved, it had vertical cuts
every 1" or so. Then it was stapled along the cut on the back side to hold it together.

Another style is instead of having it rounded, have it curve with angles.

whatever you do, go with a bench in the rear. i did the typical "cocktail seating" that most boats of these years came with and i wish i would have gone with a bench now. :((((((

Tom Peterson makes a nice fiberglass seat at a very reasonable price. (626)258-7207. If you are looking for a carbon fiber seat Tony Hammons is the guy to talk to. (928)446-1791.

Awesome thanks. Carbon Fiber looks trick, a rear bench made out of carbon fiber to match would be the shit.

I did the swap to bench last year.
If you haul people in the back seat, remember that leg room will be all but eliminated with the bench.
BUT, the engine is bulkheaded and MUCH safer for passengers. Trade off.

I got the glass bench from Tom at JBP, and the buckets from CP, although Tom does offer them also.
Both pieces were quality pieces, and Tom even channeled the bench for the Miller width.
Had them covered locally, and fabbed the mounts.

The old seats, and the typical Jet boat mounting with wood screws, was becoming unsafe as HP and boat speed increases the last few years. My driver seat actually tore out during a spin caused by equipment failure..
Now I can shake the whole boat and trailer by any seat and nothing gives....MUCH safer!

The old lounge seating.

It makes the interior easy to replace. What does a set of buckets plus a bench cost?
The packages (buckets and bench) weigh approx 50lbs and come ready to upholster, rear benches start at 60 inches and can be made as small as neccesary , front buckets come in 20" and 24" ,I sent you a PM with quote , they are typically much less that the materials and labor required to build them from scratch (wood, screws, glue etc) Tom

My interior is HEAVY.
Scott seatsrom has two different width front seat molds, and two different width back seat mold. He did the buckets in mine and his wife Mrs Maggie did all the stitching. She did an awesome job on mine and added piping in multiple places to match my gel. I couldn't have been happier. Tom Peterson has a newer style front bucket design, badbug has one in his twin turbo PC, and they look badass, but he told me he didn't make a back seat mold cuz his PC's don't need them lol. BP may also have the newer style buckets in his new PC.
