I have been testing my new toy last week. There wasn't any water coming out but later it started pouring like crazy from the side of the bellhousing.

What do you guys think? Is that a blown gasket or what?
In that video I was running at 3-4k rpm and there was already some water in the bilge. It seems there was not much pouring when there was no or little water in the bilge.
Could it be because of a too high water pressure coming to the engine for cooling?

DAYUM! That is one hell of a leak! Might be a freeze plug or??? It should not be doing that! Flywheel is picking up the water also and making it kick up like that too!

You could have a blown out freeze plug behind the flywheel or it could be leaking at the log gasket right there and it looks like the fly wheel it throwing it around.

Maybe I'm wrong...but it seems as if that is considerably more water than can travel up the single 5/8" or so hose supplying water to the engine from the pump. Are you sure the pump itself isn't pissing all over the place?

I agree with what your looking at is your flywheel tossing the water around. the question is where did all the water come from. WIth that much water you should be able to hook it up to the hose and find it.. Depending on how long it took for the bilge to fill will tell you how large of a leak you have.

Another thought. In your previous thread you talked about a hole in the bottom of your boat. Any chance thats where the water came from? Fill up your bilge with water and look under your boat. If you got a hole it should leak out.

Holly [email protected]&P that's a leak! Your supposed to put the boat in the water, not the water in the boat..........:D

Looks like you lost a freeze plug or completly blew out a manifold gasket, those bolts that hold the snails on have been known to rot apart after years of use; drain the bilge, hook up the hose, and it should be easy to isolate at that point.

Freeze plug, I had the same thing happen to me 3 or 4 years ago.

I started out with the water in the bilge - the boat has been in the water overnight. Is it normal for the bilge to fill-up overnight with the bilge pump turned off? (I had troubles starting up because of the bad battery so I disconnected the battery overnight)

From looking at the video and from the real experience of the leak - I can see the water coming up - that is definitely from the flywheel. But if you look closer, you can also see a stream coming downwards.
Just to make sure I will go on the river again next week and check with the empty bilge. I wanted to get your comments so I know where to look for the source.

The crack I talked about in my previous post isn't that large (there was about 3 inches of water in the bilge overnight).

If it's a gasket, that means I will have to take the engine out - ouch! That will cost a bit.

I am pretty sure that it's not coming from the pump. Maybe it's coming from the leak in one of the hose connections when at high rpm (i.e. higher water pressure in the hose).

that's happens alot. guys won't pay attention to that hose, it gets oil soak and swells under pressure till it splits and leaks, bet i pulled in 2 jets last yr over the same issue:mad:

Geeeez, I would take a hose and check for the leak. It's not going to stop until you find whatever it is and fix it. Definitely not at the river.

I had the same thing happen a few years ago, the steering cable seal leaked and let quite a bit of water into the bilge over night. When I fired the engine, the flex plate slung the water all over the place just like that.
If you want to check the bilge area for leaks, put the plug in the transom adapter and fill the bilge with water. If there's a leak in the bottom, the intake, the lower part of the transom adapter or plug, it will show up fairly quick with dripping under the boat.
To check the engine for leaks, put a garden hose to it or dump it in a lake and run it....on the trailer.

Thats some advice i would take. Im not sure i would take my ride out taking on that much water.

Also trying to find a leak with a bilge full of water would make it hard. Take it out first thing and try to find it. I would think that if its leaking that hard our of the block you would see it running on the hose.

Also pulling a motor is a piece of cake in a jet boat. I would not pay someone to do it. Depending on what needs to be replaced on the engine could be a different story. however replacing gaskets is a no big deal kind of thing. and if its just a manifold gasket i dont think you would even need to remove the engine for that.

Ouch.. I went thru replacing springs and a axle on my trailer, its no sweat even doing it with out help.. Will you have any issues finding new springs in Moscow?

This is obviously in the US but this is where i found all my replacement parts. Prices were very reasonable.

Thanks for the link, I need some stuff for the trailer and will buy it from there.
The leaf springs will be made in St.Pete, it's too long to order from US.

I have finally managed to get the boat on the water on Sunday to do some testing.
I dropped the boat right in centre of Moscow so lots of water police. They came over as soon as I was in the water. Don't have any registration on the boat and don't plan any (too difficult) so they didn't let me go further than 10 meters away from the shore.
That was enough to do some tuning at idle and check for leaks.

All in all, I didn't revv to more than 2k so the water leak might still be there. It's just that I didn't see it yet.

So far we can only confirm the valve-cover leaks, nothing else.
Which brings me to a thought of why this happened in a first place in a fresh engine that only had 20 hrs on it. I also noticed that the left valve cover was leaking more (right cover in the pic below):


Maybe there's too much air pressure in this left cover?
There's an air valve in the right one (circled left on the pic) so that possibly explains why there isn't much leaking from that cover.

I am thinking maybe I should put the same air valve on the left (right on the pic) valve cover too? Is it normal to put these on both sides?

Also, does it make sense to put another filter on the other side? (I don't know how it's called, I mean the cap circled on the right).
