Where is the best place to mount a kill switch in a flatbottom and how long should the lanyard be? Thinking about hitting a race or 2 next year and didnt know if there was a specific location the sanctioning bodies may require it to be. Seems to me like a bracket on the stringer just in front of the seat is about as good as any for staying out of the way and working quickly if needed.

bracket on the stringer in front of the seat is fine. the lanyard length must be sufficient to pull the kill switch if your butt comes out of the seat a maximum of 18". the length will depend on where and how you attach it to yourself. don't put together a lanyard that stretches, that will allow you to be more than 18" out of the seat. won't be allowed.

Stinger mount is good, 18" on the leash is maximum allowed per APBA.

So would mounting it forward facing under the seat be bad? Could even put a little angle up in it if necessary. Just trying to hide it and keep things clean without compromising function. You guys know the deal!

Trigger, did you find that boat on Drag boat city? Im pretty sure I saw it on there and eyeballed it for alittle while. Not sure if that was before I bought mine or after, but I was deff. thinking about buying that 1! Nice boat man!:))THumbsUp

Nice ass boat! Now that you mention it, That's the only reason I didn't buy it was the ride to get it. hope to see you around the lake or a race next season!

Thanks man, much appreciated! Yeah, it was a bit of a haul. My folks are in Kansas so I drive through all the time. Hit me up if you head for the water.

Why don't you mount it in front of the seat along with the starter button

My starter button is on the stringer up between the plate pedals and throttle. Just figured with that much extra cord flopping around between my legs that it might get in the way. My mag switch is just below the front of the seat so I can just make another bracket to mount both switches in and hopefully be unseen for the most part.

Where is this rule at? Mine has been on the engine cylinder head bracket, with the starter button a off switch for over 30 years and I never had anyone say anything about it and it's longer then 18"? When I chance engines everything come out .

Circle boats generally do it different than drag boats. My circle boat has the start and kill mounted on the passenger side head like most guys.
Generally the drag boats run a switch panel on the stringer just forward of the seat. Drag boats usually have way more switches than circle boats. Circle boats usually have none besides a start button, drag boats generally 4-8 or more depending on how much stuff you run. As far as length of the lanyard, can't say I've seen anything in the rules or had it mentioned in tech. Usually it's personal preference regarding how far out of the seat you wanna go before it kills it.

not sure about apba. this is what the lucas rule book says.

8.25 Kill Switch
All open boats must have an electrical ignition kill switch device which will immediately and automatically shut off the engine in the event the driver is thrown from the driver’s seat. All open fuel injected blown boats utilizing nitro-methane for fuel shall be equipped with two automatic kill switches - an electrical ignition kill switch as well as a fuel shut-off device. The electrical kill switch shall be mounted directly along side of or in front of the driver’s seat, and within an arm’s length of the driver. The automatic fuel shut-off device shall be installed in the main fuel supply line between the fuel pump and the injectors. Both the electrical kill switch and the fuel shut-off device should be mounted and the release cords routed so as to disconnect should the driver’s posterior move more than eighteen (18) inches in any direction from the driver’s seat. Any kill switch device that is attached to the driver must have a maximum breaking point of fifty (50) pounds within a maximum distance of six (6) inches from the driver.

I don't think the op was talking about circle racing. if he's going to run sdba or lucas, this is the rule he needs to be in compliance with.

No ABPA circle boats don't have that rule
