Im thinking about spraying methanol on top of my blower. WHats the pros and cons?

BBC 454 mag motor,weiand 177 blower,single holley 800dp


Just looking for a lil more on the top end.

Ran methanol this season on a 496 mooneyham 12lb of boost. methanol came on at 9lb. I was able to gain 400rpm. A far as a con dont know yet havent torn the motor down yet. But hope to get to it soon.

Couple of things worth mentioning. Using a nitrous plate is going to give you no atomization. With out the nitrous your just going to piss fluid out of all the holes and its going to spray a lot!

The pump you've listed only makes 14 psi and isn't made for methanol. Our pump comes preset at 200 psi, bypasses internally for a smooth even flow and can be ran with 100% methanol.

The solenoid you listed is fine. We choose to use a one way check valve as they work nearly flawless and no wires to worry about.

You left out all the fittings you will need, hoses, wiring, electrical fittings, Not everyone has an MSD system to trigger the system so they will need a boost switch or throttle position switch to trigger the system. Not to mention the performance of the system isn't going to match that of a high pressure system like ours and the type of nozzles we use are far superior to using a nitrous plate.

Not to shabby considering our competitors sell the same kit for just over $300.00.

You bet, I like the little tanks you guys make for in the trunk that mounts the pump & everything right on the tank, kind of makes it self contained & simple. It'd be easy to hide in one of our boats.

All interesting, however I've run a methanol Nos system on the 565 since 1993. Once the spray bars were set in the intake plenum I had an extra plate system so we installed it on the engine with just the fuel side hooked-up to a fuel solenoid. I installed a 150 hp fuel jet in it and at 6 psi of fuel psi it helps the engine gain 200-300 rpm on a 100-110* day.

I doubt that atomization will be a problem whether or not he injects the methanol on the top of bottom of the blower or below. The methanol will vaporize and cool the intake air regardless of where it's injected and regardless of the psi it's injected at so long as he doesn't try to flood the system.

Just my .02 from someone who's done it since 1993.

Edit: Mike is thinking about putting the alky in the top of the blower. I'd do it under the blower in the air stream. The hot blower will just waste a bunch of the evaportive affect of the alky.

It's almost all pros. The only cons to a good alcy injection system is the initial cost. What's really cool is with a good setup you can run high boost and pump gas.

Razors kit is installed on a a few daily driven V6 Buicks in the 9's (pump gas and drag radials) http://www.alkycontrol.com/ It puts up with Methanol, has a progressive controller, low alcy warning, etc...

jrork, that's what I'm thinking! Ive been reading a bunch on this and AIS was hi on the List. From what I've read their Pumps are better suited for Methanol. I watched a Video on how this setup worked. devil

Above the blower would be the best spot and some have seen a little more boost, around a pound injecting it on top of the blower. Seems that the fluid seals up the blower a little more.

Makes me wonder for the same size jet(flow) if the less you flow would be better under the carb and the more you flow with a lot of extra fuel it's better to go up top ?
