This is an interesting article in the WSJ on immigration. It had a few good points but I found one paragraph particularly telling.

"... the Obama administration has pushed up deportations of illegal immigrants to a record level, while border arrests of migrants have tumbled to a four-decade low, indicating that far fewer people are trying to sneak into the U.S."

President OBAMA thwarts illegal immigration. FACT

Seriously though, now what? If they stop coming in do any of you have the sack to put sanctions on employers that have already hired them or will a move like this just be considered unfriendly to business since it is under President Obama's watch.

I have to agree with you, bobo is brilliant.

Crush the US economy to the point where NO one can get a job then claim you've solved the illegal alien problem.

Today's illegal immigration problem isn't about a border fence or the need for a bigger wall, larger border patrol force.

Our problem stems from the lack of enforcement of the immigration laws on the books and the entitlements available once they sneak across.

If we had no programs for them to sign up for - no free medical - no free schooling - no social security - no aid to dependent children - no WIC - no welfare programs of any kind and their babies born here had to be born to legal citizens to be citizens, we would have millions and millions less illegal immigrants in this country today.

Maybe someone could explain to me why we stopped enforcing our immigration laws that once applied to every single one of our ancestors?

WalMart opened one new store every day of the year last year in MX... No need for the illegals to come here and work for WalMart, they can stay in MX and work for them, prolly at the same wage...

Hindsight being 20/20 the info below pretty much spells out what happened over the last few years with the invaders from the south...

"Mexico's "Fab Four"

•The U.S.-Mexico Connection: There's no question that China's role in the post-financial-crisis world economy will continue to grow in importance. But contrary to the conventional wisdom, U.S. firms still export three times as much to Mexico as they do to China. Mexico gets 75% of its foreign direct investment from the United States, and sends 85% of its exports back across U.S. borders. As China's cost and currency advantages dissipate, the fact that the United States and Mexico are right next to one another makes it logical to keep the factories in this hemisphere – if for no other reason that to shorten the supply chain and to hold down shipping costs. This is particularly important for companies like Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ), Whirlpool Corp. (NYSE: WHR) and even the beleaguered auto parts maker Delphi Corp. (PINK: DPHIQ) which are involved in just-in-time manufacturing that requires parts be delivered only as fast as they are needed.

•The Lost Cost Advantage: A decade or more ago, in any discussion of manufactured product costs, Asia was hands-down the low-cost producer. That's a given no more. Recent reports – including the analysis by AlixPartners – show that Asia's production costs are 15% or 20% higher than they were just four years ago. A U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report from March reaches the same conclusion. Compensation costs in East Asia – a region that includes China but excludes Japan – rose from 32% of U.S. wages in 2002 to 43% in 2007, the most recent statistics available. And since wages are advancing at a rate of 8% to 9% a year, and many types of taxes are escalating, too, East Asia's overall costs have no doubt escalated even more in the two years since the BLS figures were reported.

•The Creeping Currency Crisis: For the past few years, U.S. elected officials and corporate executives alike have groused that China keeps its currency artificially low to boost its exports, while also reducing U.S. imports. The U.S. trade deficit with China has soared, growing by $20.2 billion in August alone to reach $143 billion so far this year. The currency debate will be part of the discussion when U.S. President Barack Obama visits China starting Monday. Because China's yuan has strengthened so much, goods made in China may not be the bargain they once were. Those currency crosscurrents aren't a problem with the U.S. and Mexico, however. As of Monday, the dollar was down about 15% from its March 2009 high. At the same time, however, the Mexican peso had dropped 20% versus the dollar. So while the yuan was getting stronger as the dollar got cheaper, the peso was getting even cheaper versus the dollar.

•Trade Alliance Central: Everyone's familiar with the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). But not everyone understands the impact that NAFTA has had. It isn't just window-dressing: Mexico's trade with the United States and Canada has tripled since NAFTA was enacted in 1994. What's more, Mexico has 12 free-trade agreements that involve more than 40 countries – more than any other country and enough to cover more than 90% of the country's foreign trade. Its goods can be exported – duty-free – to the United States, Canada, the European Union, most of Central and Latin America, and to Japan.

Do any of us have the sack? Really? You voted (and will vote again, along with all your liberal friends) for the man who is currently working out an amnesty plan for all illegal immigrants in the US while suing a couple states for enforcement of immigration laws on the books and you want to know if we have the sack to enforce immigration laws? Really? You realize that there are already measures on the books that make it illegal to hire illegal immigrants, right? You knew that SB 1070 in Arizona was a State measure to enforce Federal laws that were no longer being enforced, right? You knew that your Kenyan hero was suing Arizona for that, right?

The e-verify system is in place to verify the authenticity of any potential employee and it's in place throughout the USA. Enforcement is the problem and your administration is at the head of this problem. Were you also aware that your Kenyan hero's own social security does NOT PASS E-Verify? Take a few moments to explain that to us if you wouldn't mind.

Come Wednesday we will find out if Arizona will be allowed to enforce our own Illegal Immigration policy. Gov Brewer has some fierce competition going against the Feds but she does have Paul Clement presenting her case. I suppose this couldn't come at a better time for Obama, making him look soft on immigration policy trying to get the fastest growing demographics vote.

Probably the single biggest reason he is pushing for amnesty. Just wouldn't look right is the federal government was sued for employing an illegal, or if the POTUS was deported.

This is well put, Doc; The sad thing is, both parties are playing us for fools.....The libbys want voters, and the Conservatives want cheap labor......I have watched this problem get kicked down the road by each successive administration.....We need to enforce the laws we have and we need to tell other country's people to fix their own damn country.

They are too organized inside a totally disorganized country. Ask one sometime. Ask them too be totally honest. They will tell you. We aren't doing ANYTHING your government doesn't allow us to do. Why should they change their government in their OLD country. Changing ours is much simpler, and you libbies are giving them all the tools they need.

Migrant workers are as old as this country.

Are you aware there is only one race of people that were ever denied entry into this country? 100% completely banned and illegal. Only one!
The Mexiacans have managed to make that a very unAmerican thing to do today. They have paved the way to amnesty THEMSELVES with your help.

Get this!

Both parties are actively pandering to the coveted "latino vote" this election. Chuck Schumer and the democrats are planning an anti-SB1070 congressional move if the supreme court upholds it.

Romney is supposedly seriously looking at a young inexpeienced Cuban-American, Marko Rubio as a latino running mate....
(a political gimmick like Palin was for McCain)

Political pandering race based BS from both sides to get power ...

I wouldn't be surprised if Obama dumps Biden and picks a hispanic running mate.....Now that you think about it , The Frito Bandito would actually be better than Biden!

Neither side wants to lose voters from the large hispanic demographic....so neither side will really do much about the illegal alien problem. :))ThumbsDwn

Yet, the two of you still support the losing team? Most of my clients are business owners. I'm aware of not a single employee working for any of them that is an illegal immigrant nor am I aware of any of their employees being forced to work for low wages. The two of you have been misinformed about conservatives wanting cheap labor. Two of my good friends operate two of the largest transportation companies in the world and both will openly tell you that you pay a man a good wage and he'll return an honest day's work in return. Both of you act as if these companies are willing to risk their entire organizations by hiring illegals to save a buck? I suppose from your point of view, it's reality but that doesn't mean that it is fact because it's complete BS! Most companies want happy employees as an important part of a successful business model.

Enforcement of the immigration laws, that have been on our books for decades will begin the process of curing this disease in our country but your party is fighting every effort to enforce them. You two in California are probably really proud of the election of Jerry Brown over Meg Whiteman - right?

It's because your state couldn't stand the heat thrown at it by a fiscal conservative that actually balances budgets and who intended to initiate legislation to actually consider illegals illegal as Arizona has. No, the fact is that your party hero, Brown just announced the release of thousands of prisoners to save taxpayer's money it costs to house them prior to completion of their sentences but didn't cut a single dime from illegals, where in California the additional cost of illegal immigration, $21.8 billion, is $8 billion more than the state’s current budget deficit of $13.8 billion. Oh, he cut my son-in-law's salary as a university professor though. You probably both think that's fiscal responsibility?

No corporation I know of looks at illegals as cheap labor. Not while they are here anyway. The cheap labor is in their OWN country. Not here. 99% of the illegals here are doing the work that EBT recipients will not do but should. Some how YOU people have managed to organize and unionize the stay at home lazy as meth daddie and his crack head significant other. You have managed to make it more rewarding to stay home, rob the occasional liquor store and and make babies than learn to roof a house, or pick strawberries or start their own gardening business.
Funny how tens of thousands of Asians put their kids through collage mowing lawns when I was a kid. Now Mexican fathers are doing the same. Yet the drop out rate in Maxine Waters district continues to climb. Imagine that.
If the EBT recipients ever got off their collective asses and went to work, the immigration problem would fix itself. 22.6 million unemployeed, 46.6 on food stamps, and we still have 12 million illegals here. How is that possible. Maybe the illegals are more willing to work for food than the Americans they replaced.

Maybe some socialist told these "AMERICANS" that food and shelter was a constitutional right that they were some how guaranteed. Most of the illegals figure they better work if they want to eat.

Work or Die imo. Said it before but not popular because people think it's uncivilized to have worthless pieces of crap die and not pass it's seed in our country.

I wonder how many good people are killed or had their life reduced by saving these pathetic humans. I can count some I knew personally, sad, they paid more in taxes than I ever will be able too at my current career path even with inflation I'd be lucky to reach 5%.
