Hi Mike, welcome to performance boats, and congratulations on your new purchase. I'm just assuming you're referencing a T-valve or Bassett Valve, which is a spring loaded check valve that stops water flow into the headers at low rpms. This is used to keep water from entering the cylinder through the exhaust valve, which will make it's way past the piston rings and contaminate the motor oil. At higher rpm it's less likely for water to get sucked into the cylinder, the water pressure increases and opens the valve, allowing water to cool the headers.
