brought it BACK out tonight...boat was running nice and free, lake was empty and a thunderstorm rolling in.

So I decided to open it up.

When I shut it down, the vacuum gauge started being erratic, there was a blowing/ sucking sound...no biggie, I just figured I lost a vacuum line.

It would still run, and start, just ran rough.

ok, so where do I start?

how many lbs of boost? probably a head gasket. Under boost conditions I would o-ring the block. IMO...

I like your setup, do they make them for fords?

Is the oil level increased and if so , alot ? may not have read well and is the "froth" only in the upper reaches of the covers !? (running Cometics and Felpros , no rings and no copper here)

best I can tell...yes, a lot more water...errr...oil in the pan

no t-stat.

tonight I am hoping to drain the oil and start flushing with Wal-mart oil...

what is the best way to test and see if its an intake gasket? Its a hunch that is what it is...but maybe I am just being optimistic :)

It's so quick and easy to change an intake gasket, that I would just pull the intake and put a new Mr. Gasket intake gasket in it and quit wondering about it. Follow Tom's advise on the Cometics head gaskets, you won't have to mess with O-Rings. If you ever have to freshen up the motor and rebore it, O-Rings can present a problem. We've been running the Cometics in our BGJ engine, (548 cid BBC), with 14 lbs of boost on gasoline and a 300 HP shot of N2O and have not changed a head gasket in three years. GOOD GASKETS!

Do you have a water pressure gauge?? It's nice to know what kind of pressure you are throwing at it? I'm not sure how much is too much but I get nervous at anything over 15psi.

Automotive cooling systems routinely run 15 to 20PSI, so that is no big deal. Anything much higher, like 25+, is begging for something to leak, as DuaneHTP noted, vast majority of the time, what gives up firast, is the intake maifold gasket.

Replace it/them, RTV (just a LITTLE BIT) arround the water passages on the gasket, and then find out how much water pressure you are putting into that block.
Then either reduce inflow, or increase outflow capacity.

Oh, and DIESEL FUEL (or alcohol) to remove the water, not motor oil.

Alcohol absorbs water and then can be evaporated rapidly, but, is a degreaser.

Diesel fuel also absorbs water, and is not as severe a degreaser, plus, far cheaper.

I am running a cometic MLS head gasket...so still hoping its an intake, just wondering if there is a way to test it to see if that is what went...or will it just kind of be pretty obvious?

Not running a pressure gauge on the water...that will change.

bajadad...its an old banks/ PFM kit that I pieced together. Its a pretty universal kit, the risers come off the logs...which SHOULD be about the only brand specific component.

Any one have any recomendations on an intake gasket (part # would be awesome)

Now pardon my newbieness, but since my heads are anglemilled .125, do I need to go back and have my intake cut as well?

All I can say on this one is MAYBE.
Look very closely at what you have once you get the old gaskets off, everything cleaned, and set the intake back on w/o gaskets. If there is very much gapping or a severe angle, you may well havbe to have work done to teh intake.

When I had my heads ported, the chamber grinding was offset by shaving the heads, but it was done flat, and, while I do not know how much they cut, it was not a lot, and I did not cut the intake, and I have no problems.
Tight fit, but no problems. Any more and the intake would need shaved to match.
I am running ftandard Fel-Pro blue ( I think the "print-o-seal" ones) intake gaskets for my large oval port Mk-IV Chevy, silicone on the ends of the manifold (not the rubber gaskets), and, as I said, a small ring of silicone arround the cooling passage openings in the gaskets, both sides of the gasket.

HOLY $HIT!

If I pour a bunch of diesel in the engine, will it make this stuff any easier to suck out?

This stuff is worse than a mcdonald shake suckin though a coffee stirrer!
