So i had a run in with the wi-dnr last night, apparently, he felt my boat was too loud, but said he didn't have his db meter with and that he couldn't remember the specifics on the procedure he'd use for the db test(if he caught me out again to issue me a citation), so i could do one on my own. i went online and found the procedures. i currently run the water injected basset ot's with the rex marine inserts pn 161100 on a 837 hp 572.

had a buddy come over today with his db meter and at 25' behind boat it read a range of 82-90 db at 1200 rpm idling on the trailer in an open portion of my yard, i know its not on the water as described, but i figured it would be a starting point. i know the legal limit here is 86 db. so i am looking for the most effective insert at eliminating the db's with the least adverse affects on engine performance. any suggestions???

If your pipes are under water at idle I wouldn't worry about it. I run similar power and run tips just under the water line and its pretty quiet. I know you probably like your bassetts, but my imco powerflows do a really good job of suppressing the noise at idle as well.

Id know that procedure like the back of your hand and consider putting a copy in your boat aswell just in case he tries to get ignorant with you.

unfortunately, my headers are over the transom, and still the original set from when the boat was put together in '87 and have been on a number of different setups in this boat. i do like the idea of the underwater tips, just not feasible for me.

i have the regulations bookmarked on my computer and think i will make a copy to throw in the boat. this boat has been run for a number of years on the same section of river and was never looked at twice, even when it had a 1200hp+ blower motor without baffles... more like some young dnr leo's just being pita's...

Were you running water through your headers when you tested them cuz a idle they will be louder but when your at speed the water acts as a baffle I passed a db meter that way

Ive Been Checked Several Times Local Lake And Lower River. In My Experiences They Just Want To See Something In Your Headers To Quiet It Down. They Take A Peek See Some Baffles Good To Go. Im Just Running Those 40$ Baffles From Schoenfield. Ive Even Quieted Them Down A Little More Wrapping The Outsides Of Them With Fiberglass Before I Slide Them Into The Header Like A Little Glasspack. No Troubles Yet.

no water through the headers in my backyard dry, just like the dnr will test me if i get caught again, boat at idle, 25ft off back, won't allow for the water injection to work for the test...

funny thing about all this, i drove up and was at an idle maneuvering through some stopped boats when they came over and stopped me, said my exhaust was too loud echoing off of my rooster tail as i came toward them, WTF, they were never even were behind my boat, never checked if the baffles were in like i said and as i was tring to explain the water injection... he just went off on me about how the water injection is not an adequate muffling agent, since it doesn't engage until a certain rpm... kinda reminded me of that "respect my authority" southpark episode....

are those schoenfield's stainless???

i think i'm going to look for a set of those shotgun's, besides being functional they would just look cool on the back of the pipes... let me know if anyone has a 4" set to sell...
