Reading through that local bylaw, it pretty much agrees with the federal regulations. Mufflers must be run if above water. Even allows dry headers if muffled. Problem comes with no definition of what is loud other than it annoys someone.

Agree that many modern muffler systems take away very little power/performance. Barely noticed the difference when we installed ours other than could hear the music better while under power.

We had Stellings dry exhaust on my friend's ZZ572 project and it measured 104 dB at idle three feet behind the transom , 90dB 50 feet behind the transom. Nobody complained at his marina [ most of the guys are cool there ] but we did change to a custom water cooled riser from Eddy Marine adding mufflers at the tips as well .

custom high risers to combat reversion .Pretty loud inside without the engine cover

I know someone at Coal Harbour marina had to put
silent choice on his 343 Cobalt with 525's to be able to keep it there. They chased my buddy away on his Fountain with 600SC's because of his exhaust.http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=DX9vJZ5OTZg

If you have Supertrapps , you may get away with it on some lakes .Generally ,new law is you need to go through transom;).We got rid of the Bassetts on this Carrera and put Glenwood logs through transom. Boat is used here in Vancouver area and in Kelowna no problem.
Just for your info , didn't loose a single RPM with the swap
because it's a relatively mild engine with 415 HP .

I love that boat! Super clean. I was checking it out last time I was at California Marine. Thanks for the info. Not a fan of Supertrapps. Water jacketed would be the way to go I guess. If they're through hull you can go with no mufflers though right?

JN , I have through hull exhaust on my boat and carry the slip in mufflers on board. Just in case ;):D .What you want to do in the future is ,forget about mashing the throttles as you pull away from shore. Putt putt far enough from shore that you can turn 90 degree taking off parallel with the shoreline so the exhaust noise isn't directed at the residents of the lake or river.

Here my son taking off with 19 Spectra 429 BBF with slip in muffler . Not too bad as exhaust noise concerned .In the past some neighbours made a comment that the boat was a bit loud , not anymore.

Beautiful boat! I have a 1991 Carrera with a 496 chevy, Bassett thru transom headers and 4 inch tips. It flows just about as good as the ot's with less noise.

Whats the deal with muffler/noise laws on Canadian lakes.
I live in the Okanagan and they are threating to get rid of through hull exhaust on OK lake. Anybody have the same problem.
I'm a little confused by this. What the hell are you supposed to run if you can't have headers or thru hull? A whacker? The "fun police" in BC sure do know how to ruin all the cool things to do. Wrecked Merritt Mountainfest, closed Thunderfest, made it a fine to go offroading, almost have snowmobiling banned in Whistler, what the hell is next?

Yup things are definetly changing for the worst.I think this is all caused by our aging population, BC is the retirement capital of Canada especially the OKanagan. They move here and being retired they have nothing to do but complain, add the new ENVIROMENTAL movement into the picture and you have a big mess.Just my 2 cents.

Muffler laws are coming hard , we have been in all the comity's on them.
There will be a anouncment coming in april
After reading all the bull s*#t you are going through with noise laws I have come to one conclusion.

Fork em load boat with beer , trash the mufflers, & move south. We welcome loud fast boats and good folks.

Check it out.
