Not long ago,I bought a Sanger v-drive project that I have been getting a lot of help with from a lot of you guys.I recently got a pm from fast76rogers offering to show me how his boat is rigged and take me for a ride to show me how it acts on the water, as I had never ridden in one of these boats before.I thought I knew what I was in for as I had ridden in a freinds Sanger Superjet, But as soon as we pulled away from the dock, I knew this was gonna be a little different than the jetboat. At the first crack of the throttle, that sombich jumped out of the water, kicked its tail, and hauled freekin' ASS!The sheer brute force of the boat and the feeling of being on the ragged edge was the most terrifying thing I have ever experianced, and also the most fun I have ever had.I'm HOOKED! Thanks Billy!

Here's a great v=drive story. My friend Don was taking my buddie Daryl for his first v-drive ride in a 1962 Stephens with a 402 bbc tunnel ram motor and just as he got it planed and was explaining how it worked, another friend in a v-drive pulled up. This was 30 years ago and we were all broke kids. The Stephens had 2 plastic cafeteria seats bolted in it and when they got it on, the seat ripped out and the passenger, Daryl flew back into the red hot headers ! Don never let off. When he finally did let off Daryl flew forward and smashed his head on the dash. As soon as they slowed down, Daryl, all bruised up and burned exclaimed I GOTTA HAVE ONE OF THESE !!!!!!!!! That was in about 1973, and all 3 of us still have v-drives !!!!!!!!!:)hand

Man I remember my first ride in a flat!!! Lake San Antonio in 1981 or so.. Hondo true flat the guy bracket raced in the 90-100 MPH class. After that ride I decided 2 things; one, I HAD to have one and two, I'll NEVER be a PASSENGER in one of those things again!!
Best of luck to you in your new ride!!!

First ride 19 years old Mom says she is dating a guy with a boat that i would like. I was a street motorhead so its like whatever. Me and a buddy drive three hours to this guys place. We pull into a compound that included his home, body shop and horse ranch. First thing i see is a 65 GTO and a 55 Chev both very trick. Next morning off to the river with the boat and me and Greg are like big deal. Mom says lets go for a ride, she spent the previous week driving it. She was fearless and when a big wake was in front of us she backed out a hair and the boat chined to my side and the next thing i know is i have a bloody nose and an ass load of shock. She looked at me and said "You okay" but didnt care and stuck the throttle. Hooked ever since.

Glad you bought the boat.

Hey Ron,

I'm glad I sold this boat to you. As we talked about before, the price I was selling it for I had about 20 people the same day you called wanting to come pick it up. It's funny how things work out as I did not want to deal with selling that thing the night you called because I had other things going on, so I decided to wait until the next day for you to show up. I could tell by the tone in your voice how much you wanted this boat. I remember telling you that this is a hole different animal compared to what you were use to. :D I'm glad that you took the advice of getting on this board as that is the single best and most important thing you could have done. I hope you have a great and safe time with this boat and Remember; you have to give me a ride when it's done. That was part of the deal.:)sphss

You got it buddy! After that ride I cant wait to get this thing on the water.Kinda rethinking starting with a mild motor. Now I'm thinking overkill is the way to go! Thinking bigblock now.I was gonna rebuild the motor in my drag car, but Hmmmm... maybe that can wait! I'll let you know how it's coming along.

Glad your 1st ride was a good one. Sounds like 76Rogers had his act together alot better then then the guy in Violaters post and Poncho's mom. It's not right to hit your mom but i'd have to say the guy in Violaters post (driver) would of been a tad bloody when the ride was over. But then again the rider would have to be a tad out there to get in a boat with cafateria seats bolted in it:)grn...When ever a person wants a ride in my deal the 1st thing I tell them is "I will not try and scare you"...Always hate it when I go for a ride and the driver is trying his damnest to scare me. I barely ride anymore. One thing...Make sure the boat has a whirlaway. You can get hurt at any speed.

i tryed to give him a good ride but a safe one.first impression is everything.my boat has a whirlaway."a must for a first time flat driver".i told ron to not run his boat til he gets one to.he came up to get some pics and mesurements for a baseline set up on his boat.but i figured it is no fun to just look at a boat and not see the way it handles.i told him it was alot different than the boats he is used to.i think the only thing that scared him is not knowing what to expect.but i think all in all he is hooked now.

X2 That ... about 10 years back .. A buddy of mine had restored a Bezer flattie & he had been having some problems getting the boat to take a set , He asked if i would take a ride with him as to show me what he was talking about ... so just pass the No-wake sec . he stabbed it .... It took a set but he was not familiar with the pedals and soon got out of it then shut it down ... As we sat ... I explained the up/down pedals and made a few suggestions ... One of witch was how important a whirlaway was ... as he did not have one ... He then asked if i thought it was that important even on just a lake boat ? And my answer was ... Well you could probably get a way without it but if you ever wanted to build a motor with more HP .. It would be a must ! Just after we talked He fires up the boat ... and puts his foot in it ... The boat takes a set quick .... and around 65 mph or so ( an estimate ) I hear what sounds like a quick burst of automatic gunfire ..... The next thing i realize we are almost stopped but still moving and i now facing south but we where heading north .. and my feet feel like there on fire ... I look down and realize my feet are covered in oil and i am also sitting sideways on the drivers lap ... A whirlaway is a must on any boat ...... We just got lucky that day !

So easy to laugh about it now and it always made for a good ribbing around the camp fire we had no clue about safety back then, the Gods must have been shining on us not one real injury just fantastic memories.
