Okay, I had been posting in the boat spam looking for a good deal on a Jet that needed "some" work but not too much, I have a BBC motor that I could stick together in a week or two, and I have another boat, but it needs work, lots of it and it was olds455/jacuzzi and I really wanted BBC/Berkeley... Been a couple years since someone schooled me on jet boat stuff so I need to ask a few questions:

1. The 460 Ford (was in this boat, was blown up last year) motor plates and what not will not work with my BBC right? So I need a mounting kit, where should I go to get one, doesn't have to be "show" quality, just a kit that will get the motor in there.

2. Exhaust, not sure if it was through the transom or over the transom headers, so I need a pair of these, I prefer through the transom but if the boat does not have holes in it for them I am not cutting it out and will need a pair of over the transom headers, don't care about pretty, what would you recommend? If it does have holes for TT where is the best place to get standard type logs/snails etc for BBC?

3. Pump. It's a Berkeley pump, not sure what model, he said it was rebuilt last year by Gary Snow around Marble Falls area. He said he thought it was a Berkeley with a dominator bowl or something to that effect, again excuse my ignorance... LOL... He also said it had some kind of $600 ride plate and a $1000 impeller in it and that with his BBF it ran 80's-90 with this pump setup before the motor blew. Motor was NA I am pretty sure, with 1050 dominator, Aluminum Cobra Jet heads, etc... Does this all sound about right?

Any other advice, or questions I should ask the guy before I buy are much appreciated... Price is around $2000 (I know it's probably a steal, the paint and interior is great and the hull is solid... ) the guy is currently looking for the title, I told him I had to have the title..... Boat is in the pic attached to this post....

Looks like a nice boat for 2000.00 even with no engine. Sounds like it has had some good pump mods done to it. Most of the parts you will need are available in the spam section, or on ebay used. There are plenty of guys on here that post that sell parts too.

I would look to see the condition of the stringers, other than that, it looks to be a pretty good deal.

Update: Spoke with the owner again, he couldn't find the actual title but he has all the registration paperwork in hand and tommorow is going to request a duplicate title.

The boat is according to the paper work:

1977 Waterdog 18'

Anyone have any info on these hulls, he said he believes it is a full stringer boat, but it's at his brothers house, he is going to get it tommorow and clean it up for me, been sitting for 3 months at his brothers house. He said he has some aluminum angle stock to put down on the stringers so when I redrill my holes to mount the BBC it will make it stronger, is that cool idea to do? Just checking, I am pretty much a complete noob to jet boats, but I have good mechanical and other skills, have had other kinds of boats, just never a jet, well, one that works anyway, I have another old jet, which I really like the look of the hull, but it needs too much work to get it on the water this summer that's why I am buying this other boat... Just needs motor, brackets, exhaust and it's ready to go.

Also it IS over the transom headers it does not have cutouts for through the transom so I need a set of BBC over the transom headers....

If this boat is as good of shape as the owner says it is (will find out this week) then I am pretty sure it's a steal for the money I am giving him for it... I had $3500 to spend if I put $2000 on this one that leaves $1500 to get my motor put together and a few parts to put it in the boat. The motor I have is wrapped in plastic still from the machine shop, has had valve job, bore-hone, crank polished. Has good pistons and rods. Just need gasket kits and re-ring kit and a cam, have stock intake but will probably find a deal on a nice aftermarket dual plane... I got everything else (ignition parts etc) around here somewhere. Re-ring kits are like $200, Cam kits are like $170, I am sure I can find the other stuff I need here in the parts spam or craigslist or a few of the nice people here who run business's would be glad to sell me some parts!

If I end up spending more on it than the budget at least I got what I wanted. Sounds like the pump on this boat is top-notch and the hull is really good shape too, even the paint and interior are fine, the guy has been out of work for months and is selling off stuff.... one of those deals, so I will help him out with some cash...

I have a nice set of logs and snails for a BBC if you end up needing them.

This boat doesn't have the holes and I think I am just going to go with over the transom headers on it...

The other boat I have, after reading about how some people here have had their olds 455's in service for 10 years or more without problems I am seriously thinking on the other boat I have, since I already have EVERYTHING to put a 455 olds in it, nice logs, nice hardin marine plates and brackets what I may do is fix that boat up with a stock 455 for my wife so her and her friends can ride together, I think she would really like that... The more the merrier right?

Anyone have any info on this hull? Registration paperwork says Waterdog, but I cannot find anything on that. From the pic looks like an eliminator hull...

Locate the HIN# on the transom. If it has one that will be the most reliable way to identify the boat.

Try contacting Garry Snow AKA sdba069 over on the Texas Hotboat boards. He may have some more info on this boat if he built the pump on this one.

The link didn't work but I went to the KSL site and searched the classifieds and found the add, you talking about the boat that out in like a dessert pasture just a hull on a trailer, well heck here's the full linky I got:

http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=389&ssid=5078918&pid=4&rurl=nid,218,ad,5078918,lpid,,cat,147

I don't know though the one in my original post looks like it slopes a little wider up to the dash and can't tell whether it drops off past the dash or if that is just a paint deal on the side or what. I talked to the guy today again, he went and got the boat and is having his kids clean it up real good today and I asked if he could take some more pics and email them to me and he might if he has time today. I searched and searched and could not find anything about a 1977 waterdog jet boat or anything close to that... But that's what it says on the registration papers/title.

BTW: What is a "Ride Plate" and what does that do? Also I will ask him next time I talk to him, probably tommorow morning to let him know when I am going to pick it up if the pump has a stainless impeller or what. I will call Gary and see if he remembers the boat.

I got in touch with Garry, he remembered the boat and did say it was the "good" impeller and wear ring, stainless.

Shimp, Need HIN that will tell some about the brand and where it was built! The ride plate is one that is attached to the intake on the bottom and extends out the back! Someone can explain its useage better than I! Yes that link is one I saw that looked like the pic. you posted! WT:)devil

I'll have the HIN later this week. I am really excited about it, seems like a really good deal so far. Going to pick it up Wednesday or Thursday this week.

I used to know what a Droop Snoot, Bowl, Ride plate, wear ring, and all that stuff was but it's been a couple years since I gave any though to a jet boat, there was a tutorial or something I remember reading, maybe it was a history of jet propulsion in boats from the berkeley site or something, not sure but I do remember seeing some great extensive stuff, learned a lot but forgot most all of it....
