Have you seen the new 43' Eliminator Eagle (Scarab hull) common rail Cummins Diesel package..??
This is 1 of only 2 boats that have been rigged with these new "no smoke" powerplants. This Eagle has 480hp / NXT drives; the other is a 49' Cigarette in Florida with the newer 600hp / #6 Drive package.
No Smoke, half the fuel consumption of a conventional motor, and much cheaper to maintain. Range on the Eliminator is nearly 500 miles...
I was fortunate enough to get a ride in one of the Larry Smith diesel Scarabs about 5-6 years ago - It sounded like a school bus but the performance was good and it handled great...
I'm really surprised diesels haven't already become a major staple in the offshore racing world. For the average joe boater the cost of a diesel is to expnesive but for the offshore guys who are dropping 100k+ on a motor the cost is probably pretty comparable.
Diesels are capable of massive performance in a very reliable and efficient package. I have a few buddies with daily driver Dodge Rams that are running low 13's and high 12 1/4's w/ their full weight trucks! Supposedly there are a few guys who show up to the track w/ low 11 second daily drivers.
