ok everyone, just picked up my new(07) eliminator 280 eagle open bow 496h.o. put it on the water yesterday for the first time. i think it really needs tabs because its porpusing really bad and it seems like i have to mantain 30mph or more to keep it on plane. from what ive read this should be a fix for that. your info is what i need now to decide which ones, where to mount, and who to install them( just cant make myself start drilling holes in my new boat yet!) thanks

i cant help but ask if you have brought this matter to eliminator to see what there recommendation is. they built it and if you not happy with the porpusing if they say try tabs then go for it maybe they will make a cheaper suggestion that does not require holes. (i have no ideas but ill be optimistic for you:)sphss)

no, not my first boat. already have been playing with trim settings, i just think i want it to carry the nose a little higher on plane. nobody has experienced this before? maybe its me, came from a 22 ft closed bow eagle that never had a problem. i dont think the boat has a problem, i was just looking for recommendations.

that boat rides kind of flat on plane. ive been in my friends 28 dcb extreme and i believe its the same bottom. he has a 525 and does not use tabs. he just finds that sweet spot on the trim and burys the throttle. i think with tabs if all you are trying to do is get the bow up higher you are going to sacrifice speed. elongating the boat with tabs prob will not help you cause you ride so flat on plane to begging with. not an expert by any means im just passing info from my friend with the DCB. just our 2 cents.

ya, like i said i think it might be me. i talked to kenny at eliminator and he said it should be fine also but he does recommend them. im still learning this boat(4hrs so far) so hopefully i will adapt to it, my little boat was just to easy to drive and trim. guess i will just have to spend some more time on the water...........:D

Did it porpoise on the test drive? I'd go back to Eliminator before I drilled holes, they have a great reputation.

That's the spirit... Good luck, there is always a learning curve when stepping up to a different/bigger boat.

I would maybe look at the prop you currently have on it. If you bought this boat used maybe they have a different prop that isn't the best for that hull. A different prop may allow the hull to stay on plane at slower speeds as well as help with the porposing. Just a thought.

I would think with that boat and motor combo you should be using a Bravo 24p.

Personally, I don't think you should need the tabs with that power plant... however I am not very familiar with that hull... just an opinion... hull is prolly designed to run without them until bigger power plant added and you need some more running surface...

I'm running a 28p but that maybe attributed to the power...don't know what the best set-up is?

Yep, normal 28' Eagles don't have/need tabs...but you can add them if desired. The boat does ride pretty parallel to the water...

'07 Eagle...where did you buy it...??

Why does everyone, well not everyone always seem to think that Trim Tabs are only for planing(sp)? Thats the least amount of time I use them, I use mine for a more comfortable ride in rough water, and to balance weight in my boat. Sure they help with planing but the way a lot of peeps talk that's all their good for it seems.

In answer to your question get them, any V-hull should have them IMO.
