I just bought a 18 ft. 1972 Cheetah Jet Boat & trailer with a 460 for $500. 460 has a crack in water jacket about 4" long. So I decided to get another engine instead. A relative of mine has a 1972 H.O Cleveland that has been professionally built, he is willing to part with it to me for $400. I am having a real hard time finding exhaust manifolds or headers to bolt on to those HUGE exhaust ports. Does anyone have any ideas ? Also 4 point mount system ?

Well, you can buy new headers from Bassett, not cheap though. As for the mounts, you can probably find the one for the rear since it would also fit the Windsor series of Ford engines, but the front you probably wont find unless someone here has a used setup laying around. And 351C's were not common in boats, keep in mind that in cars that engine was only around for about 4 years (at least in the states, I think it may have had a longer lifespan down under) so any marine usage is going to be minimal. Tom at Jet Boat Performance could make a rail kit for you, but by the time it's all said and done it would probably be cheaper and a WHOLE lot easier to find another 460.

351 H.O Cleveland 4 bolt mains/ 4v heads.

Well, you can buy new headers from Bassett, not cheap though. As for the mounts, you can probably find the one for the rear since it would also fit the Windsor series of Ford engines, but the front you probably wont find unless someone here has a used setup laying around. This engine has been bored .030 over flat top pistons, weiand excelarator intake, 750 edelbrock MSD Distributor plus it is a lot lighter then a 460. Yes it looks like some custom built headers are a must since exhaust ports on heads are about 2.5 in. in Dia.

Congrats on the new float!
Keep in mind, the 351 won't have nearly the torque of a 460; huge ports/heads = high revving HP. A jet needs lots of torque to get it going.

You can probably build a nice reliable 460 for the cost of those 351 headers.

Admire your perserverance here Jim Bob , the 351C might as described by the guys be a bit anemic in the 18 but have seen several successful small cubic inch powered Jets over the years that ran quite well my son for example has a 351 W (408) in a 16' boat that runs exceptionally well (80+) I will say It was by no means a budget deal its all about weight and HP . Drawing the cad and producing for rail mounts wouldn't be a huge deal and there were a couple manufactures years ago that produced log manifolds , water plate adaptors and 4 point mounts for that power plant. I believe it was a Glencoe trihull jet that came with a 351C we swapped out for a BBC several years ago I'll dig around abit for some pieces later today

Not much difference in torque from a 4v Cleveland & a 429 in 1972. Also my Cleveland has been bored .030 over with flat top pistons, surely it ought to have more torque then the one listed. Don't get me wrong you people here surely no more about this topic then I, but like I said I just want to try and be different. Sure hope different works.

P.S. the 460 makes a great boat motor.
I have heard that a lot lately, even from the guy who sold me the boat. He has a 460 putting out about 550 h.p. I won't mind a whole lot if it doesn't break any speed records as long as it works. I think I am going to fabricate the mounts, all that I really need is 4v exhaust of some sort, which may indeed cost a bit. Also I don't know much about the jc 6 or jt 6 I forget which it is, Berkeley Pump. I cleaned up the impeller, everything else in there seems to be pretty solid or should I say no free play. All in all, $500 for boat & $400 for 4v Cleveland that runs great, seems like a good deal. Boat needs gauges & steering and that is about it other then paint and I can do that as well. A 460 would probably cost more then $400, plus not knowing anyone who has one for sale that is in decent shape or trust worthy may even cost a lot more.
