Newbie.. 79 southwind setup questions

Just purchased my first jet boat.. 1979 southwind. has a 427bbc with a single 4 barrel carb. wet headers. berkely jg pump.

I know I want a place diverter.. question is does anyone have a similar setup?
will a long or short droop snoot help? or straight snoot?
will a ride plate help?
also will a rudder help me?
it has snaps that look like it has a windshield at one time does anyone know were I could find one?

all new here.. never driven. also should I get a rudder

Welcome Aboard!

Congrats on your new toy.... Nice looking Ride!

The only thing I can chime in on is the rudder. A rudder only assist at low speeds, idle and slightly above. If you do not have any experience with a jet boat or jet ski, you may want to keep it on as it does assist when docking and so forth.... and you can take it off when you feel comfortable. At higher speeds the only thing it is good for is catching trash and debris.

IMO, You will diffidently want to add a Place Diverter....it for nothing else, just for the trim function and the fun to shoot a roost! I run a droop but I do not believe I have enough HP to take full advantage..... some of the others can chime in about that and the ride plate.

Enjoy!

I have same hull, southwind tdeck. Place diverter is a must . In addition a droop made significant improvement in boats speed.

which droop do you have.. how much horsepower? and no ride plate?
I have a dominator pump with standard AT droop. Pump is setback with ride plate and also has 2* back cut shoe . Engine is stock 454 with 400hp. Boat rides great when trimmed right and does 70 mph when water is good.
