Do you see whats going on under that cover? No? Must be working.
There MAY be something in keep heat off the manifold, and who knows, maybe even some head games going on. Got you thinking doesn't it.

Of course, pros don't fall for the head game crap. Or they won't be pros for very long. I don't think Warren Johnson gives 2 ratshitz whats going on under Andersons cover. Too busy thinking about whats going on under his own.

I have no doubt that Warren would love to look under Anderson's cover if he is having ass handed to him. But I doubt he concentrates on any one thing as THEE reason he is being beat. Is it Andersons 2nd generation greaseless ceramic front wheel bearings, or did he finally get those new E3 sparkplugs to produce an extra 1.5 HP on the top end. or is it....... That crap will eat you alive if you let it. You can only keep you mind on your program, and HOPE you may find out something the others are doing. I have seen props covered until the boat is launched and guys get all bothered about what MIGHT be going on under that boat. 3 blades, 4? one small blade, one large one??? hooooahhhh what can it be. :)sphss
It's more about that big box on top of the runners. ;)
You see alot of covers that don't extend down much past the plenum, with the runners exposed. So your right, it has to be mostly in the plenum. I have seen a manifold off the engine that was split side to side, two plenums like it was running a old style cross ram except it used split Doms on each side. Probably didn't work to well, because it was no secret when I saw it. But it would appear that the plenum is what they are hiding based on some of the covers. Others are right to the valve covers.

Did you want one from this century. I was still sucking my thumb and shitt'n my diaper when that was taken. Is that Warren Johnson's high school ride?

Wasn't that during the "this ain't your daddy's Oldsmobile" campaign years? :D
I can tell if thats in an Omega, Calais, Ciera, or a Rocket 88?

The intake seems to be a key element to any advantage. Wilson Manifolds will NOT build a pro-stock manifold for anyone but Ken Black's money for a reason. Once they established an advantage a half decade ago, they paid Wilson a great deal for exclusivity. I can remember years ago when Bob Glidden rolled his car, he crawled out of the wreckage, took his jacket off and covered his intake. Of course, Alderman did it as well but that was for other reasons. :D

Traction control, electronic spark manipulation, cylinder boring, and valve train secrets have all led to rules changes in the past decade. They didn't write new rules because they were worried about someone maybe doing it either. There is nothing about a Pro Stock car that isn't secret in many ways.

Warren Johnson is a personal friend and he has shared a great deal with us - especially my sons who he spends hours at a time with. He can start at the oil pan design and work his way through the block and head design and work, through the valve train and oiling systems and even share intake and fuel system tricks and leave your head spinning. I'm grateful that my sons comprehend this stuff better because he literally talks way over my head with concepts like swirl and tumble's effect on flame patterns. :D

Cagnazzi and Alan & Roy Johnson seem to have the leading edge as of today over the likes of Mike Edwards and Ken Black's money. It's also great to see Larry Morgan sift back to the top with that Ford. He's really something and a great guy in person. Few are funnier but Warren's one who is. :D

Yeah, Alderman had a couple starting line engine explosions that did need some explaining. Of course that was before he needed to some explaing to the DEA. He never seemed to be as dominating after the "vandalism"
Billy Glidden was not exactly a saint in the mystery power either. Daddy finally exposed him.

But the all time king of the "you're busted" has to be Jerry Eckman and crew. There isn't king sized mattres blanket that could cover that little oopsie.

Yep! Big too!
If you learned ANYTHING there, you have to be gratefull for that. Learning is invaluable no matter where you get it.

First journeyman I ever worked under my dad handed me to him and said here, teach him. He was the biggest asshole I ever met in the trade, but my dad did the right thing. I still hate that man, but he did teach me ALOT!

Yal sure do have a good way of beatin around the bush:confused:

I would think for the most part they would look close to the same on the outside, besides the make, and all the good stuff would be on the inside

There's some of that Mike...but the outside shape can tell you a lot. 99% of the intake technology is in the plenum these days and it's a huge factor in the engine's performance. They have all kinds of plates and spacers going on inside, so you're right...you can't see a lot of it. There's a lot of mind games going on there, too. ;)
