Well we could always raise taxes so we could increase NASA's funding and develop our next space transport system. Or we could cut taxes and rely on other countries. Which one sounds better to you? After all, Obama cancelled the plan for the space shuttle's successor because it would cost to much and placed the burden on private corporations to develop the next space vehicle. Aren't you righties always claiming that private industry does everything better than the government?

Mixed feelings. This hurts my pride as an American. We are sending cash to Russia that could be spent here. And shuttles are launched 50 miles north of me, so there is also a local economic effect.

On the other hand, I believe in free markets. Maybe this is what it takes: The American people to (slowly) figure out, hey that price seems really high, and whoa, why the fock are we spending it? To grow fungus in space? Really? Fock that.

Or there is option C: don't raise or lower taxes and direct funding from other areas. The extent of crap we waste money on has been talked about here frequently.

Seems like good old supply and demand.. Their's is the only bus out of town. You either pay up or stay home! Those damn capitalist Russian commies. ;)
Or invent your own bus? Which is what is happening by outsourcing since they won't redirect funding from other wasteful departments.

What moneys that were to be spent on the new space shuttle were diverted to study global warming and send more satellites (which seem to never make it and crash back to earth) into orbit for study. You know, global warming is real, because NASA says so. And they will keep saying as to keep their funding.

It's akin to letting the fox guard the chicken house. :)hand

Been really busy the last several weeks, but just couldn't pass this one by. There is no way in hell I'd get into a rented seat on a bomb to get into space if I was a US astronaut. And for the clowns that have a hardon for Fox, it just happened to be the most convenient source for the link.

Russia Hikes Price of Rocket Rides for U.S. Astronauts to $63 Million - FoxNews.com

Actually we have a contract for a certain amount of rides so US can maintain the current projects going on at the space station. Russia raised the price on the rides outside of the initial contract that is in place now. Once that contract expires the new contract will have the increased cost attached, but by then we wouldn't need Russia.

NASA has already partnered up with a US company founded by one of the PayPal founders called Space Exploration Technologies (Space Exploration Technologies Corp. - SpaceX) for it's future rides to the space station: SpaceX - Updates
