Is there any boat docking in the Old Sac area?
The docks in Old Sac are open for anyone to use during the day unless someone has reserved them in adavance. Even if they are reserved by a yacht club you can usually get on the inside with boats up to 38' if you know how to handle your boat in the current.

If you want to stay overnight there is a charge.

Thanks Chris, I'm new here and would like to take the wife to Old Sac. and she can't walk long distances and a dock would be nice. Maybe the middle of the week is a better time than a week-end or holiday.

there is almost always open dock space, even on the weekends and holidays. it gets a little tight up at the restaurants farther up the river, but Old Sac has been open every time I've been through there (except when Chris does the B2B and then there are a ton of boats in Old Sac and thousands of people watching the runs).

Thanks for the info John. Now, I only know of 3 launch ramps in the area, Miller, Garcia, and Discovery, which is the better of the three?

I've heard of that B2B race, when is it and how can you watch it from the water?

Greg,
Have you checked out the ramps that you need to walk up to get to Old Town? If your wife has troubles walking long distances, she may have troubles getting up the long ramps....might want to scope it out first. If you 2 like crab, you need to eat at Joe's Crab Shack!
We often take a ride up to Old Town to eat there, one of these days we'll do it by boat.
The B2B is June 27/28 this year, I believe.

I've eaten at Crawdad's, just up river from Old Town, there's a dock and steaks along with a pretty good menu. There's also the Blue Gecko but I've never been there so know nothig about it. I'm sure there's more but those 2 and what's in Old Town are the only ones I'm familiar with.
Come to think of it, I think there's a Chevy's on the water also?
Oh, Joe's has steak too

sounds like you'd probably like the Rio City Cafe. They have steak and other fancy type foods too. You don't have to be too dressed up, I've been in there with shorts on. Its probably a $25+ a plate type place. That is downtown right by Joe's Crab shack. The walk up the ramps is gradual. not too bad. If you want right on the water food, there are a couple places up river just past Discovery Park.

Discovery is easy to launch at. I'd recommend that. Although, check out the other thread in the NorCal section as I was there today and there is something in the water that folks are bumping in to. There is the Broadway launch ramp just down river from downtown. Its free, just be careful to not drop your trailer off the bottom of the ramp cuz you'll need a 4x4 to pull it back out. The water is low, so its probably not a good idea if you have a 20ft+ boat.

For the B2b, check out Poker Runs West website at www.pokerrunswest.com. The info for signing up is there. If you want to watch from the water, I think you need to register for the entire event. There is not a lot of dock space when there are 50+ boats, so I don't think they let folks just hang out on the water. You can also watch from the restaurants.

Fancy food? A steak? I'm from Missouri and a steak ain't fancy. :D I see Joe's Crab Shack has steak and it wasn't $25.00 a plate. You guys with those big Eliminator's go for the fancy stuff. :)

I'll check with the CG Aux and see if they can find out what's in that launch. The American river is low enough to walk across. As for the B2B, I won't need to stay in a hotel or dock over night since I'm right here in Sacramento.

Just let us know when you are going out and a few of us will show you around. BIG JOE
Thanks Joe, I've got to get my boat back up and running and completely mechanically sound and then I'll run it for a while before I tear it back down to do the hull repairs and new paint. So if you don't mind a little boat who thinks it has a big heart, I'm game. Thanks for the offer. I should be up and running in a couple of weeks.

Mine should be together in a few weeks too. It will be nice to meet you.

BTW guys, I work at Joe's Crab Shack. I have a stack of "Friends and Family" discount cards that will get you 20% off anything non-alcoholic. When your in, ask your server (doesn't have to be me) if I'm there, I'll be happy to meet you and get your meal discounted (I think it's up to 5 or 6 people). I'll talk to the GM today and see if I cant get this discount for all of you guys even when I'm not there, just by mentioning my name. I'll keep you posted.

Hey Budweiser, Sounds great! Maybe we could get a local ID or Member card or something made up. Is there a local boater's club around? I'm with the CG Aux and we get a discount from West Marine, but only on things they want to discount for us.

I'll sure be glad to get this boat project at least runable and on the river again. It's a long and costly story and if I knew then what I know now, I could have bought a big chunk of one of those Eliminator boats. But, this is a classic Miller Jet boat and John Miller is still doing his thing.

How's the steak at the Shack? :D
