Opening up the Bob's MERC Cowls

I was told a little while back that the Bob's cowls heavily restrict the air-flow into the motor. Can anyone confirm or deny this? At a glance, there is a possibility I may agree. There are only like 4 little holes on the cowl allowing air flow. Should I open them up a little bit and get some more air in there??

Yup. Bob's Marine made a cowl for the older 2.5s that makes them look as the later models do.
I put a set of Bobs alien cowl on my old Silverwing.Nice cowls but yes you need to cut bigger holes.Ive seen guys cut that hole area where the two 1' holes are big enough to put your hand in and then drill some 1/2 inch hole in the back.some kind of pattern that looks good.

Good call. I'm gonna do it. You think its worth putting a few directly in front of the intake itself?
No dont put any more in the ft and Id try it without drilling in the back first and see. What motors are they.

I did. Took it out this weekend too. Maybe I'm crazy but I'll say the motors felt stronger and much more responsive now.

HAHA, shit. I try hard to not pay attention to that one. I don't think I saw any loss. Usually on an average day Ill suck down roughly 50 gallons which is exactly what I did on this weekend. So I think its really about the same efficiency. Which isnt much! :D
