I need some help choosing the right oil pump and pickup for my Milodon oil pan with windage tray. It's a 10qt pan and with this new motor I want something that gives me constant oil pressure and also trying to figure out what I should do ask far as pan evac or catch can. From reading past threads it looks like pan evac is the way to go.

I have read a bunch on pans the past few days and there is an issue with those pans and/or pumps. One of the posters was talking about a fix for it, but I can't for the life of me find it.

Pan/pick up...

Usually, the pan and pick up are pretty much a set... Using the wrong, or wrong type, pick up can result in a reduction in efficiency... I will suggest you stay away from the Milodon re boxed oil pumps... The last ones I inspected were, lets say, less than stellar... AND, they're just re boxed off the shelve stocker Mellings with really shitty quality control when it comes to the numbers inside...
For a "pleasure" boat engine I would recommend the Mellings 10778. It'll do everything it needs to do. For an all out racer, I'd go with the 10778C which has the reliefs in the housing for sustained high RPM use...BUT, the "C" is NOT recommended for engines that idle a lot as they WILL see lower pressures at low RPMs, like 5 MPH, no wake zones....
The Milodon pick up will fit either of those Mellings pumps..

PS Any pick up you choose to use should have a welded bracket to bolt to the pump. DO NOT try to braze or weld a pick up tube in an expensive pump. It will distort the housing no matter how careful you are..And yeah, I know, we did it for years...

So I'm guessing you can only use the manufacturers oil pickup with their pans. Fawkkk! :angry:

You can use any pickup that fits, and is the right distance off the floor of the pan, and puts the pickup box where you want it.

Steelcomp did a beautiful write up making extra tabs to hold the pickup. The issue was the tab that held the pickup tube broke, causing the pickup tube to fall out... no oil pressure.
Chassis tabs will also work well. Search for the write up... it was nice work.

That was for a flywheel forward V drive. I think the OP is running a jet.

If it is for a jet the Milodon pan sucks because they don't have a lip at the rear to keep the oil from running up the back of the pan and getting aereated by the crank.

So you put one under the pump.
I took the one out of a B&B pan because it won't clear my pump, never had any issue. It doesn't exactly launch like a 9 second car.
