I got my new Place Diverter in today and it's a very nice piece. Unfortunately, like everything else on this boat, it's giving me problems with the simplest of tasks. Here's some pictures, they say more than all my words ever could. This is pulled up as far as it will go. I think something might be wrong. Please help me. I am trying to get the boat in the water this weekend, so I don't have a lot of time to figure this out.

Thanks in advance!!!:D

Adjust your steering tube out more. If it won't go out anymore, turn the tube over and then adjust it that way.
Also, it looks like your going to need a pivot extention to attach the arm to the cable.

make sure your steering tube has some play in it, it shouldn't be tight to the transom adapter. that should give your cable enough play to be able to bolt it up no problem.

the steering tube is the aluminum threaded pipe looking piece that your cable goes through, make sure that it has some movement to itm that should fix your problem. if that doesn't fix it then take the steering tube out of the transom adapter and swap it end for end, this will give you more tube out of the adapter and allow you some more angle.

I know what the steering tube is and I think I understand the flipping it around part. But, does anyone have any pictures of how theirs is because I'm a little brain dead without pictures, most of the time. I just don't understand how extending it out further would change the angle. Wouldn't the angle stay the same, but the distance would change. Sorry, if I'm being difficult. I really don't know why, but I have trouble with most components of the steering cable.

Thanks.:D

they're tryin to tell you to leave the tube loose where it passes thru the transom adapter, thataway you can bend it upwards or downwards to get the angle on the arm right:D the tube should be sealed with rubber, which will still seal just as good at any angle other than straight out.

Why aren't you asking the dealer you bought the Diverter from??

Cs
Because that answer would more than likely be one sided, and this way I get lots of different opinions and options to try, from multiple people.;) And I doubt that they would be able to answer me right now, and I'm in a hurry for a solution.;)

Yep, that looks like a winner, but that means I will have to wait until next weekend to get it wet.:( Takes a week to ship things from Cali to here.:|err
And I'm too cheap to pay for expedited.

Thanks.:D

HJ,

If you can't make one of those with all the machines you have at your disposal I am severely disappointed. I would make one with a chunk of aluminum, a sander, and a table saw and drill. Get on it and you won't have to sit on the river bank strokin'

Good point, I think I'll do that. It's just a little more difficult now that I'm not working at the machine shop anymore. But, I can still go in there whenever I want to, and make whatever I want to.:D For free.;) What size bolt and thread pitch is the steering bolt? I need to pick up one of those too.

Thanks.:)hand

the bolt that goes vertically thru the place arm is 3/8 nf, if you are near a boaters world or captains store that is a very common morse cable swivel. ifyou need one i have them , probably one day from you. 423-745-9667

Since you have to wait a little for the part, you might as well pull the nozzle off and grind out about a 1/4 off the top so youll have a decent roost. As it sits now your gonna only have about a 5ft tall roost. Do the quick and easy mod and youll almost double the height....One of the best free mods you can do to your boat.....

As you can see in the pic above, my tiller arm was ground down for that reason. Or if you had a split bowl, i would say wedge it...... But you don't sooooooo.................Get out the grinder:D

When I had my droop on I used an extension, swivel, and spacer.
Now its just the swivel and a small 3/4" spacer.

Uhhhhhh, 3/8 what??? I know it's a 3/8" fine thread, but I'm not positive of the pitch. Is it 3/8"-24?

Thanks.

Thanks for the pics, these should help a lot when I go to make it.:)devil Probably going to go in after work and hammer one out real quick, shouldn't take more than 30 minutes or so.:D

Thanks again!!!:D

I think I'm going to pass on that for right now. Not real interested in grinding on something I just spent $450 on, and waited 12 days for.:|err I'm not looking for a lot of roost right now, I just want to get it in the water.:)bulb

Thanks for the suggestion though.:D
