This is such an erie feeling when you are literally right at the spot where it happened. We were anchored in a cove around 3 dunes only to see/hear multiple emergency craft fly by. We were getting ready to go for a ride so we went to check out all the commotion. This is what it was. Upon arrival at the scene less than 1/2 mile from where we were, LEO's told us to stay back because they were looking for "a missing person" at that point. Over 20 mins. since they last saw him. 4 LEO boats, couple rangers, LHFD rescue boat with divers and the chopper overhead. Prayers go out out to the family and friends touched by this tragedy.

La Habra, Calif., man believed drowned

Staff reports
Saturday, July 4, 2009 5:50 PM MST

Dive teams from five public safety agencies are searching for a boater missing and presumed drowned Saturday.

Lt. Randy Johnson of Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said the call came in at 1:49 p.m. that a 45-year-old La Habra, Calif., man had jumped off a pontoon boat into Lake Havasu near Black Meadow Landing and failed to surface.

“MCSO is being assisted by Bureau of Land Management, Lake Havasu City Fire Department, Buckskin Fire Department and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office in a dive rescue operation,” Johnson said.

Divers are searching an area about 100 yards off the shoreline.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

thoughts and prayers
We ran to Springs this AM and as of about 10a they must have had 8-10 PD boats that set up a perimeter around the area. My guess is they were still looking.
my friend

This is my friend who drowned. We all stopped to take a dip. Tony jumped in and never came back up. He was a GREAT MAN. Having the time of his life. No, they haven't found him. And NO they are not doing all they can to find him. We searched for him today hours longer than the divers. They were there for an hour or so. We spent all day searching shores on both sides of the lake. Still our friend is missing. Please pray that they find him. A lot of people are missing Tony. I hope no one else has to ever experience this.

Sad deal, sorry on the loss. I would imagine that the current at Black Meadow is strong. That could be the reason the search was stopped.
