Bought a Prime-a-jet off Ebay. Do you need to remove the bowl to drill and tap it? Doesn't say anything about it in the instructions. Pat Ps. I didn't buy it from Duane at Htp so don't want to call him. Not fair.
I would not think so. If your worried about the chips, use grease when tapping. the chips will stick to the tap.

use common sense or install a depth collar on the drill if you decide to drill it on the pump. you can hit the impellor if you run the drill bit in too deep.
I agree, when i did mine, i drilled slow, and as soon as the bit went through i stopped! I did run the drill down and up a couple times but but i only did enough to clean the hole. Use a sharp bit so you dont have to be putting down a bunch of pressure.

I have installed them with the bowl in place. What I do is run a pilot hole with a 3/16 bit. Then I follow up with the proper bit for the 1/4 NPT thread but I don't go all the way thru, I leave about .125" with the 3/16 hole. I figure I don't get as much alum dropping into the bowl. Grease on the bit works good too. Jim

How much do these things cost??

Looks like something I could benefit from.

Tommy about 1/2 way down the page....$49.95

They are the nuts! As soon as your boat comes off the trailer the pump is primed. I'd definatly suggest buying one from HTP though. Much better made and the ones on ebay are ripping off Duanes invention. In my opinion they are stealing out of Duane's pocket. He's the one who invented it.

Have someone hold a shop vac hose up against the drill and tap while you do the job and it will suck all of the chips right in. (oh yeah, be sure to turn it on). And no, those are not my primeajets that are on ebay, but they will work for a while until that spring gives out. Good luck. Duane HTP

The corners on the hex part are little different, ours has all Stainless steel parts inside and the ring that keeps the ball in seats much better. Really kind of hard to tell. They did a pretty good copy of the external part.

I'm surprised they went through that much trouble to duplicate it. Is there that much of a demand for them? You sure whoever is making them for you isnt making extra and selling them?

I have an honest question...

I have a Prime-A-Jet as well. I had the boat idling tied to the dock while I checked everything at the back to make sure both engine dumps were dumping when I noticed that water was spraying out of the holes on the Prime-A-Jet at idle.

Is there not enough pump pressure to push it closed at idle, or does this indicated that the ball & spring is stuck open?
