Tested my boat yesterday with the new engine and drive (26 Daytona, XR, Max Machine upgrades, 2" shorty sportmaster, 1.50 drive, 912 hp on the dyno at 6000 rpm)

The only prop available yesterday was a 28 Bravo which I know is too small, it hit 90 effortlessly at 5500 rpm, and had to back out of it because it was going to over rev.

A 30 or 32 will be the solution, need to test both out next week.

I realize I need to go with a 1.35 or 1.26 drive ratio so I can run smaller props and get the most top speed out of it, but for this season I am committed to the 1.50 due to the budget.

Question....I am pretty sure I can spin the 32 prop based on all of the research I have done and folks I have talked to with similar set ups. But if I was to run a 30 and give up some top end speed, would it be easier on the drive? Or is it pointless, if its destined to blow a drive, which I know it will over time, is it going to blow just as soon if I run the 32 instead of the 30, all other things being the same, ie how I drove it?

Thanks, Walt

I agree with the above posts and also recommend that you do not cruise for long periods of time in the RPM range where your motor makes the most torque. If your motor makes it max torque at 4600rpm and you cruise along at that range for extended period then you are putting max torque through your drive and will damage it. Herring props in HB offers a demo day at Elsinore periodically and usually several boat manufacturers bring something down to test. If you get one of their props and it is not the right size I am pretty sure they have an exhange program. They email me when they have sales or the demo day.
