Im wondering what a good prop would be for my set up,,since i damaged my old one i will keep it but id like to get another prop as a spare so the boat is a 71 aqua craft shark 18ft , 12 degree casale with 18% gears and a 454 chevy about 400-450 horsepower. The prop I have now is a really old o & J
11 1/2 x 15 and it seems fine but if im going to get another prop I might as well try something different I guess? I was told the pitch might be a little much but I have no idea so would a 14 pitch be better? or what about a little bigger prop? 12 x ???? how does this all work as far as size and pitch ? im using the boat for skiing and occasional friendly squirt boat race here and there,,,,,whats a good size prop for this? or should I stick with the same size prop I have now? thanks!!

FWIW I run a 12-14 3 blade. Also have a 12-15 3 blade and both work well with the boat. With either I can take off in either 2nd or 3rd and pull a skier out of the water and I doubt I have the power you have. But I have a 20ft Eliminator mini day cruiser with a 400 h/p ish 461 inch chev. 18* gear and the props I mentioned. YOU need to find what prop and gear ratio works for YOU. I also am running thru a VERY good t400 trans. My 02.

For years in our old ski boat we ran a 11.5" X 15 ish menkens two blade. The nice part is the two blade would "slip" enough at low speed when you mashed the gas to let the engine gut some RPM before it would bite, but not too much. maybe up to 2500 or even 3000, but no higher. Our engine was similar to yours so we did not want it to spin too high. Our max RPM was around 5200. Ours had 22% gears, so we were a little bigger on the gears than you, but still close enough.
