I know nothing about superchargers, so I am doing some research. I looked online at Whipples website and talked to someone at their office and I think I got some generic answers. I also called Teague Custom Marine and got a different set of answers from them. Does anybody have any experience with this set up and have any real horsepower numbers? Also, how is reliability with the addition of a blower? Do you have to spend more time wrenching on the motor or is it still pretty turn key like a stock 525? Is there a better blower for this motor other than a Whipple?
Thanks,
Dennis

The life span of a blower motor can actually be longer than a N/A motor. You can pull a taller gear, or a larger prop and run at a lower RPM for the same speed as a N/A of the same CID.
Trying to keep you foot out of a blower motor is the hard part. The power becomes addicting. One of my bioggest bitches about the whole blown LS deal. Everyone seems to think you won't use the power all that much. Bullshit! If thats the case with you, why would you be looking at a blower, and people who think like that should buy Bayliners.
Dropping a blower on an engine built as a N/A has its limitations. Hammering on a "converted" N/A engine will most likely shorten its life, and you can never have the power of an engine purpose built as a blower motor.

GMC roots VS Whipple screw. There is now questioning the screw kicks the roots blower's ass up and down the street. Teaque is a huge quad rotor guy, and they do work. Its not my thing. To complex, kind of hookie in my book. some people dig the look, if thats you, go for it. they do make power.
Personally I will take the 305 anyday. Makes plenty of boost, low temp rise, works on a standard roots manifold and intercooler with standard carbs or roots type EFI arrangement.

The only con to the Whipple is cost. You have to decide if the cost is a factor over efficiency.
If the quad rotor is you thing, its about the only game in town that looks like that.

Turn key (so far), the acceleration is much better than the stock motor. I run a XR with it and have around 30 hrs so far. What are your putting it in?

I had a Pro Charger on a 502 in a 28 ft Eliminator that really woke the boat up. Yes I did prop it up and ran most of the time at a lower RPM but as people have said it sure is fun to put your foot into it. Put 200 hours on the boat with no problems.
