Question about the PTO! I removed my PTO from a SBC to install on my new SBC. After removing I noticed that there is about a 1" dia aluminum pin that is pressed into the end of the crank and goes through the center hole of the PTO , How the heck do you get the aluminum piece off the crank or is it required to have it:confused:

I don't know anything about a pin. My pto doesn't have one. Mine locates it's center on the crank, the same locator as the flex plate.

Mine would also center the same way! just the pin that has me a little confused. I looked on CP Performance and the only PTO they show that has a pin or what have ya in the center hole is the pto for a LS1.

That is likely to keep the pto concentric to the crankshaft, Ive done similar things on custom setups. They make these slide hammers that accept threaded deals on the end, you drill and tap that piece in the crank and slide hammer it out, that thing doesnt need much press, less than a thou. If its done right it should come right out. Just leave it in if you can.

Its on the old motor and I am installing a new motor so would do no good to leave it..Maybe I guess I don't need it:notsure:

Our PTO's center on the flywheel in the case of solid flywheels, and on the crank shoulder in the case of flexplates. Some of the real old PTO's out there had that center bushing thing going, never really understood the reason for it if the PTO fits the shoulder on the crank properly.

Rex, we always use yours but in some cases we have to modify it for a rear alternator or whatever it may be and we have to use something like that to keep the pto concentric, when do the aluminum pto's come out :)bulb Should be fine we are running aluminuum drivelines now

While aluminum would be a piece of cake to build, I have concerns from a liability standpoint if one should break. Same reason I've never build aluminum prop shaft couplers, etc. They make me nervous. :grin:

It would also be real easy to make PTO's with a rear alt pulley integral to the part if there was enough demand for same.
