Hello all. Have a quick question after this weekend. Took my boat out on saturday and boat ran great but at the end of the day when I put the boat on the trailer I noticed the hand hole cover had been split in two. Got a good idea its related to pressure but my question is what is the ideal pressure to be running?

Little bout the boat setup:

472 BBF with berkeley JG-12 pump. A aluminum impellor. Stock loader grate. I believe the shoe is a 1/2 " thick but I need to check. Ive been out about five times this year with no problems and nothing fancy as far as the setup so Im just curious what could have caused it. The water was not rough at all that day so I doubt I hit a pocket. Maybe could have been a small crack in the cover and it finally gave way??

Anyways I'd like to tap the pump and put a pressure gauge on there just to see what kind of pressure it is running. What do ya'll suggest pressure wise?

They usually break when you have a hardware issue meaning your setup isn't quite right. Get a pressure reading, post pics of your hardware. Also what kind of boat?

A momenetary "Gulp" of air for example after a roller or wake can cause this (shock loading) "flying the boat" or hardware issues as previously indicated , You lucky it didn't sink if the cleanout is inside , take a good look at the clean out eye bolts to see if thier elongated where the anchor pins pass thru them (should consider upgradeing them too) I would also mill and plate the cleanout cover , also look at the suction in the forward partition area of the cleanout bore for cracks Tom

I need to fit a pressure gauge on the suction piece of my 12JC pump.

What should the min/max reading be on the face of the gauge? 10Psi,30psi etc.

Could be a hardware problem and also could be a air pocket issue. I learned along time ago that you need to burp a pump to release any trapped air( normally in the top of the bowl) After the lesson I noticed my E.T. times got more consistent and the boat left harder on the hit! Air will compress and water will not. if the pump is fully loaded with water you will have less a chance of compression wanting to find the weakest point.IMLAO . M
