I am a pwc owner, I love it.
This last weekend in Laughlin, NV. a local gave me a ride in his Jet Boat.
I am hooked. We booked it from The Riverside to Copper Canyon. @ times we hit 80+

Now I want one bad! I have been looking on C-list for boats and trying to search the net for info about pumps.
I saw some stuff on pumps on this site but I still have a few questions.

How do I tell what Berkley pump model I am looking at??
What Berkley is the best starting point?? What Berkley is a lemon??
What Is Hawaiian a Good hull??
When looking at the hull where should I look and @ what??

Thanks For Any help. I want to spend my money wisely.

look for the tag on the top of the pump by the hand hole cover, that will tell you what pump you have. Berk and dominator are great pumps, look at the bottom of the hull for wear, you can tell if they beach it alot by how much gel coat is missing, look for cracks in the gel coat in the corners.

If Your Looking To Run 80 Plus Youll Need A Good Performance Hull. Read As Much As you Can On This Forum You Will Learn A lot. Ask A lot Of Questions On Here Before You Buy.

I would like somthing short 18'-20'

For seating, I like all the seats facing forward. I like the bench rear seat.

I can do 5k-10k on the deal.


I went and looked at a '75 Hawaiian 460 BBF w/ Over transom headers. It had a Berkley pump. But I am not sure what type.
Untill today I didn't know anything about Droop snoots & other pump upgrades. The guy didnt mention anything special about the pump other then it being Berk.

What hull do you Recommend??

& No. I am not in law enforcement. I have a '94 mustang. It runs 10.7 on MT Radials. No one ever believes it. So. As a joke my nick name is 10/7

Hawaiian is more of a production boat. I don't recall if it has full length stringers but what ever you buy I would highly recommend it. Good to great boats that can deal with 80 MPH should be hand layup, full stringers, and well trailer-ed (meaning the trailer fits and supports the hull well. old boats with bad trailers will develop a hook or sag to the keel and will effect the ride and handling. The pump advice given above is good but I would also look for a boat with the shoe and ride plate already done. The shoe and ride plate is a machined add-on that replaces the cutting edge of the pump intake and runs past the transom and is supported by the pump near the nozzle (your PWC probably has it). This is a good indication that the boat was meant to perform. When inspecting the hull look on the inside as well as the bottom. "White" fiberglass indicates delamination and should significantly reduce the value. It can be fixed but can be expensive and time consuming. Jet boats I've worked on and/or raced include Rogers, Hondo Pantera, Eliminator Daytona, Liberty. Other great old names include Bahner, Southwind, Sleekcraft, Avenger, Advantage, Sanger, Placecraft, CP, there are more but space and time limit my list. Good hunting and have fun.

The ID tag on the suction piece is a good place to start should have basic info


What Berkley is the best starting point?? What Berkley is a lemon??
There are no Berkley "lemons" IMO the all work well, alot here will go to your expectations


What Is Hawaiian a Good hull??
These hulls were mass produced , decent performance and nice lines

When looking at the hull where should I look and @ what??
Sort of depends on what you want out of the boat , what your going to do with it and what your budget will allow... Tom

Sell that PWC and buy WOT's Eliminator Daytona. By far the best deal on a good jet boat that will fit your needs. There are two types of jet boaters....the ones that have bought a Daytona, CP, Placecraft, etc. And those who want to sell their boats to buy one. do yourself a favor and spend a little more now, so you don't want something else later. It would be like buying a Ford Escort for your first race car....you went with a mustang didn't ya.

This is really good advice. Now I am on the right track. I have been looking at Daytona, Placercraft, Howard. Higher Quality Hulls that are hand built.
Most of them are setup for BBC. I am having a hard time finding one setup for BBF. I am a Ford only guy. 4th gen. My grandfather would stir in his grave if I had a Chevy powered boat.

The hull and pump don't know what motor you have pushing it with. The biggest problem with changing from BBC to BBF is buying new mounts, starter, and exhaust. Everything else is same. It's up to you how you deal with the shame of down grading a nice boat by running a Ford! :D:D

A super river or lake boat is a TX 19 with good room and a sweet ride! Tunnel boats such as Daytonas are great riding and flying boats but do lack in the room department! FWIW!

Ten/Seven, There is always a few cheby guys that don't know a thing about Fords. Your on the right track for hulls, pumps and of course Ford powered. When you find a boat, ask here first before purchase and you should get the straight scoop.

I know. Cheby guys are always talking about how Cheby is faster. Iv never seen it. But allot of talk non the less. the boat I was in was ford powered. Big 502 stroker with dual Carbs and a tunnel ram. It was FAST.

Ford Power. for a little more money, U get bigger power & coupled with more reliability for a little more $$ on the build.
Cheby. On the other hand. The parts are $0.10 for 12. So when you break it (U will) its cheap and easy to fix.

The 454 dose not stack up to the 460 ever. If you want to compare small blocks, as a Cheby fan, your forced to compare the 350ci. to the 302ci.. If you try to compare it to the 351ci. the 350's true competitor it falls way short. Further more Its victory over a 302 is not even that impressive. for all that stroke & extra 48 cubes, it makes only slightly more horsepower.

Have you ever looked at a map??
it took less than 2hrs. with stops. its only 66 miles (give or take, I had been drinking.) according to my Garmin. I am not sure on the fuel, but we didn't have to put any in.

I Know I Only Get A Little Over A Gallon Per Mile With My Boat If I Stay Out Of The Throttle. About 35 Miles With 30 Gals Of Gas.

the boat had twin tanks. I saw that. He said when you point to boat strait and cruse down the river. you get about 2mpg. So 40 gal would get you 80 miles...
IDK much more than that about it.

You would probably enjoy checking out LakesOnly web site www.flowdynamics.com who is a member on this fourm. It confirms the difference between a 460 & 454. Also, LakesOnly is a wealth of knowledge on the 460 and is always willing to help out on this and other fourms like www.460ford.com
