I put this in my build thread but thought it should be here as well.
Better really keep your eyes open when assembling one of these things because it seems that quality control is out the window when it comes to our parts anymore. I was file fitting my Sealed Power HellFire rings yesterday and got almost to the last cylinder and found a pin hole right through the second ring. They are sending me some replacements but dont you guys think that this should have been caught? Sure glad I saw it.

That was their top secret R&D sealing port. Lucky you discovered it before everyone found out.

I have learned to trust nothing. You would think stuff like that wouldn't happen but seems the norm with everything nowadays. Very few take pride in their work anymore, Q.C. was staring off into space when that one rolled by.

I'll venture a guess here that they don't inspect every single ring. They're most likely batch tested at certain intervals. These are not a high dollar ring, but more a production performance ring.
Good catch Hass...I hate to say it, but that's your job as the engine builder. Someone less thorough would have missed it. ;)

Thanks guys.
I took the ring and pulled the gap together and it broke right were the pin hole was. Certainly would have broken if ran. Porsity.

You cannot expect to produce reliable power you are after with off the shelf parts, R&D will lead the way to success. Your only as good as the weakest link. I know the pro motorsport teams have parts, built to there own spec, then once inhouse, QC double check parts, and record batch info, and finish process parts.

There are people running these rings in engines that make mine look like a play toy. I'm sorry but parts arent as good as they used to be. Mr Gasket stuff sucks! Used to be a quality gasket, not anymore. You used to order the extra thick intake gaskets and they were made from a thicker material, now they are two gaskets glued together. And it seems that all of the big name companies are headed in that same direction. All bought out by the same huge conglomerate then the QC goes in the toilet. Made in the USA is still better than the off shore stuff but not by much, and they are catching up fast.
Building a high performance engine used to be a fun hobby, now its a game with these guys shipping junk parts back & forth and having to prove that you didnt f-ck the stuff up in the first place. Because they are looking for any reason not to replace it. I hate having my engine tore down all over my shop because of the room it takes and I know full well that before I get all the parts rounded up and the wrong-defective parts shipped back & forth , that a job that should have taken me a few days will be lucky to be done in three weeks.

Thats my point, throw the parts to the masses, how many take them to the edge? Not many, not much loss, makes numbers crunching sense, lets do it. There are different levels of QC for parts too, the good stuff is reserved for the select few. Yes the good old days are gone, merging and down sized companys, reduce the product line and quality.
