Because it will feed back and keep the starter engaged. Try running without it. If it will start when cold you should be good to go.

Why can't I put that wire on the same terminal as the solenoid wire? Its hot when key is turned...however, I'm sure there's a reason why they dont' do that to begin with anyway though, so why not?
What are you running that needs a ballast? A 12 volt coil runs on 12 volts unless you have those things.........what are they called?.....points? i thinkoh yeah...I KNEW that...just slipped my mind.
